Zaya + Simon

How did you meet?

We met at a friend’s birthday weekend in Taipei, Taiwan. Simon had already been living in Singapore at that time, and I was serendipitously making the transition of moving from Malaysia to Singapore. We had an instant connection that weekend. We had our first date the very evening I moved to Singapore, and the rest was history.

When did you know they were the one?

Less than a year after we started dating, I was offered a dream role based in Salzburg, Austria – halfway across the world. Without hesitation, Simon was ready to drop everything and move with me. That’s when I knew I found my true partner in life.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His devotion and thoughtfulness for his loved ones. His integrity when it comes to all aspects of his personal and professional character. Despite being incredibly ambitious in life he has a goofy, lighthearted nature – he never takes himself seriously and encourages me to do the same.

Who proposed and how?

Simon proposed on December 31st, 2021 at an escape room in London.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Dancing at weddings is a big part of Filipino culture. My mum and her sisters (my aunts) were planning a special performance as part of the wedding program, but the big surprise for me was when my dad joined midway for a truly epic surprise performance.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Throughout the wedding process, trust your gut. Stay true to your vision. On the day, be present and take it in as much as possible. It goes by really quickly! Nothing goes perfectly according to plan and it’s OK to let go. Have the most incredible time!

What were your favourite details?

Every single aspect of our wedding was deeply personal to us – from the customised logo on our coconuts and stage floor, to the neon signage with the lyrics to our first dance, to the lawn games in our reception.
