Theanna + Nico

How did you meet?

We met on good old Instagram, I followed Nico as he looked familiar and he thought, as he said in his speech; that that was me pursuing him (but he was obviously wrong!) so he followed me back, thought he was on to something and messaged me. Nico told a great story of how we met in his speech and how he supposedly “wooed” me, I will always remember our first date when he finally got one, he tripped up on his way to the bathroom at our local country pub. When he fell I realized he was as clumsy as me and I just knew he was the one for me! We have “date nighted” there ever since!

When did you know they were the one?

It was a gradual thing for me, my love for Nico grew stronger and stronger from the moment I realized that someone can love you for just being you. They support you no matter what and always make you feel good about yourself. When I realized I needed to lean on Nico and tell him everything I just knew I couldn’t be without him, I knew it was real.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

I love the fact that Nico is reserved and laid back, I am a stressed person and he keeps me sane and grounded. He is super handsome and he also has OCD which you would think would be a bad thing but it means our marriage is equal and we both have input!

Who proposed and how?

Nico proposed to me outside of our wedding venue, The Fig House; on his birthday may I add! We went for a walk around the gardens and he got down on one knee before breakfast. It was the best day, one I will never forget and I am pretty sure Nico won’t either!

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

The Speeches! After my Husband Nico had finished his I just felt so in awe of him, I didn’t realise how much more I could love this man until that point. We had been through so many ups and downs to get to this day that we never thought was going to happen. For the first time in my life I really felt happy and content that I was now Nico’s wife and this was the start of the rest of our lives together. If we can pull off a wedding during a global pandemic we can surely tackle anything together, right?!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I came across Made With Love on Pinterest and when I realized you were an actual bridal dress brand I was so excited and began a search to find a local stockist. Being from the North of England I was fully prepared to travel a long distance to try on all of the gorgeous dresses you have!

My original dream dress and the dress I was fixated on was Stevie, I loved the dreamy applique lace but I also had my eye on Sadie as I loved the plain crisp contrast. Before my appointment I showed my bridal team my options, everyone LOVED Stevie but they just didn’t like Sadie.

When I found Marrime in Jesmond I immediately booked my first appointment at the end of 2018 and we took a day trip. I was so overwhelmed by all of the gorgeous dresses they had of your range to try on, I instantly opted for Stevie but unfortunately, it just didn’t suit me, at this point I was anxious as I knew my bridal team wasn’t keen on Sadie but I went for it anyway! They were blown away!! It was the one, I just knew that the plain crisp look was for me and Sadie just sat in all the right places, she was mine!

What surprised you most at or about your wedding?

We were originally meant to be married on the 17th of April 2020 but had to postpone to 31st August 2020. We were naive when we initially postponed as we genuinely thought everything would be fine by August, but we were wrong. Leading up to our new date we were literally riding an emotional rollercoaster as rules around weddings changed so much. We both just decided to stick at it and eventually got our heads around the fact we would now only have 30 guests instead of 70-100. With this in mind we were anxious about how the day was going to pan out, would it be the same lively, fun wedding that we had anticipated?…. We were so wrong to think it would be any less than it should have been, it was just perfect. It was so intimate, I got to spend time with all my guests and they even complimented the day by saying how comfortable they all felt with the number of guests there was. We all had so much fun!

What advice would you tell other brides?

Please don’t stress too much about what can go wrong on the day and don’t get too het up on very small details like is the envelope colour the right beige. Your choices will be amazing and everything will fall into place.

My advice also in this current climate is if you have the chance to go ahead with a smaller wedding, do it! It was literally the best day of our lives with the people that really mattered. Take this time to really strip back and do what makes you both happy.

What was one thing you did differently for your wedding?

I always thought that I would be very very slim on my wedding day and before I met Nico I was just that but I wasn’t happy within myself. I decided not to put pressure on the fact of losing weight anymore and instead I found how to love my figure again and enjoy myself when I am at my happiest because somebody loves me for who I am and not just my body.
