Skye + Jay

How did you meet?

We had known of each other throughout school and we had mutual friends. We spoke every now and then throughout the beginning of high school, then we lost touch eventually. We finally spoke at a race day and things kind of just took off a few years after that and it was the best decision I ever made stopping and speaking to him that day.

When did you know they were the one?

I know it sounds cheesy, but I think everyone has that feeling in the pit of their stomach when they know this could potentially be THE one. They eventually just become a part of your everyday routine and you don’t think about whether you can live with them for the rest of your life, it’s the fact that you couldn’t live without them.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

I like how kind he is to other people. He would give the shirt off his back for a stranger and has such a servant’s heart.

I like his smiles. Duh. I could stare at that smile each day. It literally makes me want to smile when I see him happy.

He makes me laugh, every day. Does not matter what mood I am in, he just knows exactly how to make me giggle, especially when I need it the most.

Who proposed and how?

He proposed at the Bunya Mountains in Dalby. We went to a look out up there and did it as the sun was setting over the town. It was honestly phenomenal. I hear about all these extravagant things people do but this moment we had up on the mountain was honestly our perfect moment that I think is pretty extravagant in my eyes.

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

Being surrounded by so much love and happiness. I have been to so many weddings being the youngest of 11 children. But just being surrounded by everyone that wanted to be there supporting and celebrating you and your partner, was just the best day.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

This moment was the best! When I saw the dress on a model on Instagram, then I saw it again with the big skirt over the top, I nearly cried, because I had been so worried that I was going to make the wrong decision for the most important dress I will ever wear in my life. I could not decide whether I wanted a tight or a big princess dress. Then when I saw the tight dress with the skirt over the top, I knew it was exactly what I wanted and I didn’t change my mind from that moment I saw it.

What surprised you most at or about your wedding?

Honestly, how quickly it goes. I know everyone says it, and on the day I was like no way this is going so slow but the next day you just go ‘Oh Wow, that just happened.’ But I would not change anything.

What advice would you tell other brides?

IT IS WORTH IT! The blood, sweat, and tears you have put into this wedding. The amount of times you went to call it quits or the times you felt you were doing it tough and no one was helping you, is worth it. But trust me when I say, on the day, you will not care. You do not care how the napkins are folded or where the sign is going to be placed. So take a deep breath and embrace the craziness that is planning a wedding!

What was one thing you did differently for your wedding?

I wouldn’t say we did anything differently but I wanted people to walk into our wedding and go ‘Oh that is so them’. I wanted our day to resemble us as people. We had Krispy Kreme donuts as wedding favors because we love donuts. We had touches of pink and white everywhere to match the bridesmaids and groomsmen. We wanted it to be aesthetically pleasing but also to resemble who we are as people. My bridesmaid and I changed into sneakers for the reception, this honestly was the best decision. Comfortable and stylish. Little things like that made the wedding ours.
