Roxy + Matt

How did you meet?

Matt and I are both teachers, and we met on our first day both at a new school back in 2015. I saw him across the room and thought, whoah, Silver Fox! Matt helped me a lot as a new teacher and before I knew it, he had moved next to the desk next to me in the staffroom and was delivering my coffee each morning – what a man!

When did you know they were the one?

Matt and I spent a lot of time getting to know one another trekking the Gold Coast Hinterland while we were training for the Kokoda Challenge for school. I think I started to fall for Matt when I realised how easy it was to trust him, and how much fun we always had together. We have such different personalities and perspectives on things too, so always learn a lot from one another. We had started seeing each other before Christmas one year, and then I went to Europe travelling by myself for 6 weeks. It was an incredible trip, but I felt like something was missing. I remember having a moment with a friend in London while I was telling her about this guy, and thinking “Sh*t: I think I’m in love”… And then sort of freaking out because I didn’t want to date someone from work. I was so excited to get home and see him again.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His adorably childish and adventurous nature, his intelligence and absolute passion for learning, and the fact that he can literally fix ANYTHING!

Who proposed and how?

Matt woke me up early one morning, and told me to put on some active wear. He knows I hate surprises, but somehow he managed to keep it from me where we were driving to. We ended up at Lamington National Park. An hour or two in we got to a waterfall and he popped the question, with the most beautiful ring made by my uncle, which was followed by a picnic of cheese and wine. Later that night he threw a surprise dinner party for me with my friends. We chose the venue at Cowbell Creek because we both love animals, and because we’d spent so much time hiking in the area.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I fell in love with the Riley Luxe in Pebble at the Gold Coast Showroom. The intricacies of the lace and sequins were stunning and the V-neck showed off my tattoo just perfectly. The dress fit like a glove and the tulle wings were so fun and carefree. The reaction of my mum said it all.

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

The whole day was incredible, but I think the most magical moment was walking down the aisle and seeing Matt’s reaction was a highlight.

What surprised you most at or about your wedding?

How quickly the day went! Everyone warns you about it, but now I understand how time really does fly. It is so important to soak up all of the moments.

What advice would you tell other brides?

It’s okay if things don’t go perfectly! They create fun memories. For example, my pug Ruby’s flower crown fell off just as she was to walk down the aisle with my maid of honour. Also, Matt struggled to put my ring on my finger! These moments made me laugh and helped me to relax and enjoy.

What did you do differently?

I had six bridesmaids all with mismatched dresses! Unfortunately due to COVID one of my bridesmaids was unable to attend due to lockdown in Melbourne but we streamed her into the ceremony and it was so nice for Matt & I to see her and her husband watch us walk down the aisle after the ceremony. She also surprised me with a special speech that was read at the ceremony which was beautiful.
