Danielle + James

How did you meet?

We were set up by two friends! The old blind date 🙂

How did you know he was the one?

Hmmm for us it was a bit of a slow burn at the start…. we started slow and were both a bit unsure as to whether we were suited to each other but that quickly changed once we got to know the true versions of each other! We have so many similarities that once we both learnt each others quirks it was only onwards and upwards from there!

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His generosity (he would do anything for anyone), his sense of humour and silliness and his values (oh and his good looks 😉)

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

In the showroom in Dulwich, Adelaide! I had already been to a few dress stores and had found one that I thought might be the one. Towards the end of my appointment at MWL after trying on several dresses, Sharon asked if she could show me a style she thought might suit me. As soon as I tried on Riley I was in love!!!

Who proposed and how?

James did! We went on a camping trip to Coonawarra to test out a friends double swag that we were planning to buy…. James is 6ft 6 so lets just say the whole swag experience wasn’t wonderful, ad to that it was raining and muddy it was beginning to feel like a bit of a failed weekend away. The place we were staying (Bellwether Wines) had some glamping tents also so as a surprise on the second night James upgraded us to a glamping tent. We were so excited to be comfy and dry, we cooked a delicious dinner and then headed back to our tent….We hadn’t long been back in the tent when James came in and knelt next to me and popped the question!

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

Surprisingly our ceremony! Not that we weren’t looking forward to that part but I didn’t think it would be as enjoyable as it was. It was constant laugh the whole way through, James and I wrote our own vows and hadn’t heard each others until the day, which i would definitely recommend! Our guests haven’t stopped talking about how engaging and enjoyable the ceremony was.

What surprised you most at or about your wedding

How quickly the day went! Everyone said it would but it was just incredible how quickly it was all over. For something you put so much time into organising it is just crazy how quickly it all flies by.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Definitely to try your best to not let the stress of organising the day become overwhelming. It is so easy to get caught up in the tiny details, at the end of the day it is only you that will notice. It truely will be the best day of your life and so worth the chaos of organising!

What was the one thing you did differently for your wedding?

The venue we chose was completely DIY, which was what drew James and I in, I work in events and James is really creative so we thought it might be right up our alley. Having the ability to completely design our whole day from top to bottom and not have any ‘packages’ or requirements was amazing (hard work….. but amazing). Our family and friends constantly suggested we should hire in an wedding coordinator but we decided to go it alone. We were soooo happy with the result in the end and it felt so much sweeter knowing we had done it all ourselves (obviously with so much help from our family and friends!).
