Penny + Paul

How did you meet?

When I moved to London for university, I needed to find a job. So I went down to my local pub and handed in my CV and about a week later I was pulling pints for the locals. Paul just so happened to be one of these “locals”.
After a staff party (which for some reason Paul had managed to be invited to) I drunkenly messaged him on social media…a week had passed and I had no response!
It wasn’t until 8 MONTHS later, at another staff party (once again he was somehow invited), that he finally asked me out on a date! The rest is history!

When did you know they were the one?

When he carried me down a mountain in the pouring rain after I had slipped and hurt my leg. Turned out I had actually broken it and needed a metal plate and 13 screws to fix it!

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His smile, generosity, and his willingness to always do the dishes.

Who proposed and how?

One afternoon in June Paul visited my family in secret to borrow my grandma’s ring and to ask for their permission to marry me.
We had planned a birthday trip for him up to the Lake District, our favorite place, and we spent a long weekend there.
On his birthday on Saturday the 27th of June, we had planned a climb up the mountain I had broken my leg on two years before. It was a beautiful day however, I can’t say the same for the walk. It was steep, covered in hidden holes, and took forever! By the time we got to the top, I was not in a good mood.
Paul then got his camera out to take a selfie, his phone was rubbish so I insisted on using my phone. He set it down on a rock and proceeded to film the proposal. It took me completely by surprise and it’s safe to say, it made the memory of what was a very challenging climb up, disappear.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I tried on my first MWL dress at Halo & Wren in Hemel Hempstead. I loved the Elsie so much, I knew I would come and try it on again.
Fast forward a couple of months and you bring out the Cameron. I knew I had to try it on.
I immediately booked an appointment, and the second I tried it on, I knew it was the one. The fit, the lace, the sparkles! Everything was just perfection in a dress!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

There were so many, but my favorite part was walking down the aisle. Just seeing all the people you love in one place really moved me, I had to fight back the tears so I wouldn’t ruin my makeup!

What were your favorite details?

Getting ready with my girls, the ceremony, and the lovely readings by my Niece and Father-in-Law, the food, my god the food was delicious! When the band arrived and everyone took to the dance floor, we had so much fun!

What advice would you tell other brides?

Enjoy every single moment where you can be a Bride, from the proposal to the engagement party, the bridal shower and hen-do, and of course, the big day…it all goes by so quickly and before you know it, you’re a Wife.
