Molly + Tyler

How did you meet?

Tyler and I met at a Mariner’s game in Seattle that we went to with mutual friends in May of 2018. I had just quit my job working the night shift at the hospital, and I like to say I was finally “awake again.” He caught my eye at the game that night, and after, we talked until the last call at the bar. I knew I wanted to see him again.

When did you know they were the one?

I knew Tyler was the one when we went to Shi Shi beach for a camping trip about three months into our relationship. I remember sitting near the fire and talking about why we were so drawn to one another. For me, the reason was that he was so demonstrative in how he felt and I never had to guess what he was thinking. He was always direct in what he was feeling and loved to share his thoughts with me. It made me feel loved, secure, and I knew I could rely on him because of it. When we were sitting on the beach that night, I knew I wanted to marry him someday and spend the rest of my life with him.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Tyler is thoughtful, demonstrative, and hard-working. I love these three things the most about him! He is truly the best person I know, and I feel lucky to be married to him.

Who proposed and how?

Tyler proposed in Victoria, BC over Thanksgiving weekend. It was just the two of us for a weekend getaway. We stayed a cute Airbnb that had floor-to-ceiling windows and a beautiful view of the harbor. On Saturday morning, Tyler woke up really early and insisted that he go to the store to pick up coffee creamer so that we can drink our coffee in the Airbnb and watch the boats go in and out of the harbor at sunrise. I asked if he wanted me to go with him, but he said no. I couldn’t figure out why he was being so antsy, but I figured maybe he didn’t sleep well and just needed to go for a walk. When he got back, as we sipped our warm coffee, he pulled out a notebook and started reading a letter to me. It was beautiful. Before I knew it, he was on one knee asking me to marry him. I was already hugging him before he could finish asking. It was the best moment of my life. Tyler would probably say it was the best and most nerve-racking moment of his life, and he sprinted to and from the store for that coffee creamer because of it 😊

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

For me, the best part of our wedding was the speeches. My dad’s speech was thoughtful, heartfelt, and touching. Tyler’s brother’s speech was funny and heartwarming, he even shared funny childhood photos of Tyler. My sister’s speech was hilarious, she even sang part of the “Hamilton” soundtrack at the end and had my brother stand up from his seat for the toast, everyone loved it! It was a great moment.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I found my dress and fell in love with it at A&Be Bridal in Ballard (Seattle, WA). Before I went dress shopping, I was expecting to select a dress that was much more simple, high neck, and maybe with cap sleeves. Obviously, this dress was the opposite. Fun, sexy, lace, and a simple silhouette. While it wasn’t what I thought I would like, I felt the best wearing it. My style is unique, and I think this dress is unique like me. I knew Tyler would love it too, and that is why I fell in love with this dress!

What surprised you most at or about your wedding?

Before the wedding, the COVID-19 pandemic was really making our planning difficult. We had a very simple plan from the get-go and wanted a small wedding of fewer than 50 people so when restrictions started tightening as we approached our October 2020 wedding date, it was adding stress that neither of us anticipated to our planning. In mid-July, we were realizing that our October plan might be altered. Tyler woke up on Friday, July 24th, and asked if I wanted to move our wedding up to the following weekend and just make it happen under the current guidelines. I couldn’t believe he was suggesting it! He started emailing venues all around town to see if they could accommodate us. While our original venue couldn’t, the Columbia Tower was prepared to host us. We finalized our wedding plans in 8 days and got married on August 1st, 2020. It was the craziest 8 days EVER and even though we did not have every detail planned out, the night could not have unfolded more perfectly. Everything truly fell into place, and that is what surprised me the most about our wedding! We had everyone we wanted there, and the little imperfections / unplanned moments throughout the day were the highlights of it. If you look at our photos, you can see how relieved I am immediately after our ceremony. I was so relieved to not think about the pandemic anymore or the planning, and so grateful to finally be married to Tyler.

What advice would you tell other brides?

The details don’t matter as much as you think! No one is looking at the color of your napkins, or paying attention if the music is loud enough. Heck, they don’t even care if you have a dance floor or not! The people who are at your wedding are truly there for you and your future husband, to celebrate your love. Don’t let the details get you down, and if there is a hiccup, or two… or three… those will be the most memorable and funny parts about your day. Soak it in!

What was one thing you did differently for your wedding?

We wrote our own wedding ceremony and asked our friend to get ordained and say our wedding for us. He added his own special touches, which made it very personal, intimate, and romantic.
