Meghan + Jon

How did you meet?

Meghan, a teacher, was introduced to Jon by her teaching partner, who happened to be married to Jon’s best friend. After a little Facebook stalking and messaging back and forth, we met for a drink and hit it off!

When did you know they were the one?

Three months into our relationship, I told him I couldn’t go to a Super Bowl party with him because I had stopped by an adoption event and decided to rescue another dog. He quickly changed his plans and spent all day at home with me and the new puppy. I realized he was just as dog crazy as I was!

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His loyalty, thoughtfulness, and sense of humour.

Who proposed and how?

Jon dressed up our three dogs to help with the proposal. One was wearing a shirt with iron-on letters reading, “Will you”, the next was wearing a bumble bee costume, and the third was wearing a shirt that read “my mom?”, spelling out “Will you ‘bee’ my mom?”. They greeted me when I walked in the door after work and Jon was down on one knee.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I first fell in love with my dress online on the Made with Love website. I loved that it was unique, flattering, had a gorgeous train, and unique 3D lace design. I discovered that only two bridal salons in all of Michigan carried Made with Love, so I drove almost 2 hours to Fenton to Ivory Loft Bridal. I tried on many Made with Love dresses that I loved, but they didn’t have Carla in stock (yet), and none of them felt like “the one”. I kept thinking about Carla. They called me a couple of months later and I returned with my mom. As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one!

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

Hearing my husband’s vows. We decided to write our own and my husband is not normally a very expressive person. He wrote them the morning of the wedding and knocked it out of the park. He completely took myself (and our guests) by surprise with his beautiful words. There wasn’t a dry eye, including his!

What were your favourite details?

All of the little touches that made the wedding feel like “us”. I was very hands-on with planning, and due to COVID, we had an extra year to do so. That meant I had time for more DIY projects. We had custom made bar signs with signature cocktails named after our dogs, got married under an arch made by my husband, guests drank from champagne and the “Champagne of Beers” (Miller High Life – my husband’s request) from a champagne wall, also made by my husband, and we had homemade colouring books for the kids.

What advice would you tell other brides?

When the big day comes, just try to be present and soak it all in. It really does fly by in a blur. During different parts of the day just take a moment to look around at who is there, how you’re feeling, and try to take it all in.

Also, immediately after the ceremony, take a few minutes to step away with your new husband, just the two of you. Our officiant suggested this and it was so nice. As soon as our guests went to cocktail hour, our friends gave us each a drink and we walked to the pond by our ceremony site to let it all sink in and prepare for the rest of the night. Even if it’s just five minutes, the rest of the night will be a little crazy, so it was nice just have some calm the two of us to enjoy being married.

Any standout vendors?

Our photographer, Kassidy Rhodes, was amazing. Her second shooter is her sister and they are not only super talented, but also really cool people. My husband hates having his picture taken and they both really made us feel at ease.

Also, the coordinator through our venue, Amber Frawley, of Pineapple Punch Events, was wonderful. She helped in the 6 weeks leading up to the wedding reaching out to vendors and finalizing things. She was the MVP the day of the wedding, taking care of all of the things so I didn’t have to worry about anything.
