Mary + Ashok

How did you meet?

In 2014, Ashok and I worked together – both at our first real jobs out of college. He had left Michigan to move to Boston, at the same time I was moving back home to Massachusetts. We sat next to each other at work and developed a strong friendship. A year later, while out with a group of friends, I attempted to defend his honor at a bar (leading to us both getting removed by the bouncer!). Ashok bought me a rice ball to cheer me up, and officially asked me out on our first date the next morning. We have been attached at the hip ever since!

When did you know they were the one?

The first time I brought him home to meet my parents and brothers after dating about 1 month. He was so patient, kind, attentive and genuine in talking with everyone. Knowing that he sincerely enjoyed spending time with my family made all the difference, and we knew we shared the same values.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Ashok is kind, driven, and a wonderful listener.

Who proposed and how?

Ashok proposed in March 2019! I received a special invitation for a meet and greet for one of our favorite musicians – we had bought tickets for the concert months in advance, and the invite said we could meet him before the show. Little did I know it was not real, and that Ashok had worked with the musician and venue to create an amazing surprise. When we walked through the doors, the musician was playing an acoustic version of our favorite song (now also our wedding song!) – Ashok got down on one knee and proposed, and then we danced to our song.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

My second time trying on dresses I went to Head Over Heels in Mashpee, MA. Christina the owner is amazing and showed me so many beautiful MWL dresses. I had trouble deciding between Harlie and Stevie, but put Harlie back on one last time and didn’t want to take it off! The beading and lace were so unique, elegant but fun, and it is so comfortable.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Try to enjoy the process and the actual wedding day – you are fortunate to get to marry your best friend with all of your friends and family around you!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Our ceremony was perfect. I could feel the love in the room from all of our friends and family. Reading our vows to each other was such a special moment that I will never forget. We also did a hand blessing and had my aunt read a prayer passage that was also read at my parents’ wedding 35 years ago.

Any standout vendors?

Our photographer and florist went above and beyond! Totally amazing people to work with and they both understood my vision from day one!
