Lindsey + Michael

How did you meet?

I met my husband at Windy Hill cidery in York, SC, just outside of Charlotte. We had mutual friends that met up one afternoon, and he asked me out for coffee afterwards.

When did you know they were the one?

I knew he was the one at a friend’s wedding. He was the best man, and as I was looking at him standing next to the groom at the altar, I realized he was the only person I wanted to marry.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner

I knew he was the one at a friend’s wedding. He was the best man, and as I was looking at him standing next to the groom at the altar, I realized he was the only person I wanted to marry.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I found my dress at Paige and Elliot in Huntersville, NC. Looking for dresses is very overwhelming, and they were all starting to blur together. I wanted something different from the traditional corset dress with a strapless sweetheart neckline, and this dress was the complete opposite. It was intricate and beautiful and I felt like a better version of myself when I put it on.

Who proposed and how?

He proposed at Battery Park Bookstore in Asheville, NC. It’s both a champagne bar and bookstore, and you can bring your dog inside the store. I got a cocktail called Death in the Afternoon while he went to use the bathroom and psyche himself up to finally ask me. Then we walked around for a while, and found a quite corner. He pulled the ring out of his pocket, and the rest was a blur. I was so happy I forgot to say yes, then we sat down and relaxed in the moment for a couple of hours.

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

The best moment of my wedding was after the ceremony when I realized the hard part was over, and now I can get some wine and party.

What surprised you most at or about your wedding?

I was surprised by how nervous I was before the ceremony. Not because of getting married, but because I felt like it was a pageant, and I didn’t want to screw up.

What advice would you tell other brides?

I would tell other brides it’s normal to second guess all of your decisions, even after the wedding. It’s not going to feel perfect, but it will be wonderful. What matters is how you feel, not how you look or what went wrong.

What was the one thing you did differently for your wedding?

I decided not to take my husband’s last name, so we had to adjust the ceremony to reflect that. After the ceremony, we decided to be referred to as “the newlyweds” or “Michael and Lindsey” instead of the traditional Mr. and Mrs during the introductions.
