How did you meet?

We met though a dating app at the beginning of the pandemic – June of 2020. Our first date was a FaceTime that lasted 3 hours, our second date was another 3 hour FaceTime and then we met and my life instantly changed for the better.

When did you know they were the one?

About 4 months into our relationship we both got COVID and had to quarantine together for 10 days (this is after spending lots of time together due to restrictions). He always knew the right thing to say or do to ease my anxiety. While we were in quarantine I received a devastating phone call that my sister-in-law had passed away suddenly in a tragic accident. We were unable to be with my family in that moment due to our inability to travel – during the days following he held me up, both figuratively and literally. Once we are were able to go see my brother and family he came with me without question and met my family while we were experiencing extreme grief. He was there to play with my nephews, sit and talk to my parents, comfort my brother – I knew he was kind, caring and selfless before that moment but that took it to the next level. Moving forward I couldn’t see any moment in my life – good or bad – without him in it.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His extreme thoughtfulness and kindness
His joy and appreciation of all the little things in life
His authenticity and silliness

Who proposed and how?

We were in Maine for my 40th birthday and I had rented a house for us and a few friends. My parents also came down for the occasion – he chartered a sunset sailing cruise for the evening and invited my parents, my best friend since childhood and his husband. I didn’t suspect anything since it was my birthday and I knew he was planning something special. I suggested we take a private moment at the bow (and totally accidentally set him up) – he was standing behind me and all of a sudden there was a ring in front of my face – I went into shock and yelled “are you serious?” about 10 times before saying “absolutely”. It was the happiest I have ever been.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I fell in love with my dress at Blue Bridal in Austin. My first couple wedding dress appointments weren’t fun at all, as I hadn’t really figured out what the right style and look for me was. I had thought I maybe found my dress and then Blue Bridal was my last dress appointment while my parents were in town. I tried on Louie Flowy, really liked it and then when I showed them they gasped and their jaws dropped. I had to sleep on it and go back a few weeks later to make the decision, but I just loved it so much – it’s the perfect combination of modern, whimsical and timeless.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Walking toward the love of my life at the end of the aisle with my best friend from childhood also there officiating. Close second is seeing my parents dance – their 50th anniversary was the year of our wedding so I had my friend sing their first dance song and gave them a special moment.

What were your favourite details?

I did something a little non-traditional and separated out the ceremony and reception. We had a morning ceremony with a brunch cocktail hour after, then had a 5-hour break and returned for the reception. That was my favorite thing for two reasons – first because the ceremony was so important to us that we wanted it to be its own standalone event, and second because we got to spend the whole day with each other and spend time together alone as a couple on our wedding day! A few other details – we had alpacas in the morning, we buried bourbon for good luck during the ceremony and at the end of the night we left our wedding to get our wedding date tattooed on us!

What advice would you tell other brides?

It’s so easy to get caught up in the details and look of your wedding – especially with the rise of social media. So many people want to make their wedding special and different, but the thing that makes a wedding special is that it’s yours! Not a single detail of our wedding would have mattered if it weren’t for the people there and the love and joy that filled that room.
