Kirra-Leigh + Jake

How did you meet?

We met at a mutual friends party and hit it off straight away. A month after we met he moved to Western Australia and a few month later I followed him over there.

When did you know they were the one?

When he cut his 6-12 month trip to Canada short to come home to be with me.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His heart, his sense of humour and his ambition.

Who proposed and how?

He proposed in Airlie Beach the week before my birthday. He had all our friends in on it and had planned it all out and booked this Bali hut on the water. My friend asked if I would come meet her at sunset for a ‘surprise for my birthday’. Me knowing she just got a new camera thought it was a sunset photo shoot. My partner said he will take me down there. As we are walking towards the Bali hut I see my friend and start waving. She doesn’t wave back but starts taking photos. I was like ‘what is going on’. The hut was decorated with fairy lights and rose petals and my partner squeezes my hand and says ‘there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you for a really long time’ that’s when I knew it was about to happen and started crying. He had this big speech prepared and I missed it all coz I was balling my eyes out until we reach the hut and he asks ‘will you marry me’

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I fell in love with my dress at the Gold Coast MWL store. I had been trying on dresses all day. I think I had tried about 15 all up. Originally I had my heard set on Ryder but I knew I had to pick 2 others which were Penny and Harlow. So I try on Ryder first, my best friend starts crying coz we had talked about it for so long. I loved it. Then I tried on Penny. I loved it too but I couldn’t do strapless. Then I put on Harlow…. I stood in front of the mirror and I had ‘the moment’ I cried, my girls cried and I said ‘this is the one’. It was the last dress at the last shop I went to and it was meant to be.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

I think the ceremony was the best. But the vows were my favourite. I got to share all my deepest feelings with my husband and all our loved ones. I struggled getting them out coz I couldn’t stop crying but it was magical.

What were your favourite details?

I loved the low back the beads the train, everything. It was just the most beautiful dress I had ever seen. The detail on it was outstanding. I loved how the little belt complimented the dress style. I wish I could wear it everyday.

What advice would you tell other brides?

I would say take your time planning. So many things change while planning a wedding and you also see peoples true colours when it comes to weddings. Don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t let anyone bring you down about the decisions you’ve made for your day. It’s about you and your husband and that’s all that matters.

Any standout vendors?

Sooo many. Our venue on the Sunshine Coast was The Rocks Yandina. They are incredible. They look after all the smaller detailing so you don’t have to, and they are so easy to work with. Kate Ellen Makeup artistry was amazing as well. She had such a good energy and made my wedding look dreams come true. And our photographer Captive Light. They captured our day perfectly even in the rain we had!
