Kelsey + Dane

How did you meet?

My husband and I are “high school sweethearts” 🙂 We met at the end of my sophomore year, his junior, while both running on the track team. We grew up in the same small town in New Jersey, went to college together at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, and have lived together in Brooklyn for the past five years. We got married on our ten year anniversary, June 15, which was super special to us and so nice to get to continue to celebrate the same special day.

When did you know they were the one?

I think I always knew that Dane was the one, because he had me laughing from the start and I haven’t stopped over all these years. I also struggled immensely with anxiety and depression as a teenager, and he was always so supportive and understanding. He helps to keep me calm and rational, and I’m so grateful for him.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

My three favorite things about Dane would have to be his witty and sarcastic sense of humor and ability to always make me laugh (even in times when he’s pissing me off!), his genuine love and interest in my family and friends, and his ability to always be so uniquely himself and never let what others think of him get in his way.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I fell in love with my dress at Lovely Bride NYC! It was the second dress I tried on and I didn’t want to take it off! My sister got her gown a few years before from Lovely Bride, so I knew I liked many of the designers and styles they carried. It helps that they’re super sweet and knowledgeable too!

Who proposed and how?

Dane proposed to me in McCaren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, by the dog run. We often take walks on Saturday mornings to the park to watch all the dogs play, grab bagels, enjoy the fresh air, and shop the little green market. I jokingly said that we need to make a distraction to steal one of the cute little frenchie puppies, and he down on one knee and said “I have a good distraction” and asked me to marry him. It was so sweet and intimate, and all the more special because of the history of the ring: my dad gave my husband my great grandmothers engagement ring, and he had it altered and customized to a more modern style by his uncle who is a jeweler.

Where did you go to Honeymoon?

We honeymooned in Italy and it was so incredible! It was Danes first time in Europe, and we had the perfect mix of site seeing, food and wine, and beach relaxation between visiting Venice, Florence, Rome, and Positano.
