Jillian + Edward

How did you meet?

We were friends all through college, actually neighbors! Ran in the same circles for years. It wasn’t until Jillian graduated and moved back to Virginia for her first nursing job that they finally realized what she’d been missing out on. Their first date was at a winery (Ed worked at a vineyard through school), and the rest is history.

When did you know they were the one?

When I realized I could be my absolute true self and he still loved me. Being friends first was huge, we already knew the best and worst about each other. Within 3 months I knew I’d met my husband.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Sense of humor-literally can make me laugh no matter what in the world is going on, calming nature – I’m type A and anxious he is truly the yin to my yang, and his height (I’m 5’3 he’s 6’4)  😊

Who proposed and how?

He proposed on top of a mountain in Vermont. With two of our closest friend’s Tom and Devin (fun fact: they were both in our wedding party and got married a week before us!). The ruse was we were taking our puppy Remi for one last walk before we left to go to a brewery. He led me out to the most perfect spot with a beautiful backdrop of the mountains dropped to one knee and asked me the question I’d been dying to hear “Will you marry me??” I immediately said yes. Our friends capture the entire proposal and proceeded to help us celebrate with lots of champagne.

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

Finally seeing Ed during our first look! He’s my person and all I wanted was to see him all morning long. He was so emotional and sweet. I’ll never forget it!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I knew it was the one before I ever tried it on. I somehow found MWL online and fell in love with the Carla. It was unique, with the deep V and low back I’d always wanted. I just knew!!

What surprised you most at or about your wedding?

We had a COVID wedding with 43 guests. I was so worried having fewer people would take away from our big day. Honestly, I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Our family and friends that were present were absolutely amazing. Did not take away from our day one bit. Truly don’t’ know what we would’ve done with 200 at our venue!

What advice would you tell other brides?

If you don’t have a day-of coordinator, seriously consider getting one! An absolute lifesaver on our big day.
Also, live in the moment on your big day, make time for just you and your husband to savor the best day of your lives!

What was one thing you did differently for your wedding?

Our menu: We served chips with salsa/guac/queso as our appetizer and then guests chose from chipotle haddock, grilled lime chicken or carne asada tacos with all the fixings.
