Gemma + Joe

How did you meet?

We matched on tinder and met in south London a couple of days after. We got on so well the date spanned 2 pubs and 1 restaurant over 10 hours on a Sunday afternoon. We have been inseparable ever since, travelled around Europe together and as he is a born and bred Aussie, moved to Australia with him to continue our adventures.

When did you know they were the one?

I realised after going through packing up my life, moving across the world and a global pandemic where I couldn’t see friends and family that he really is my best friend and that I don’t think I could have overcome the challenges without him.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His optimism, he never fails to make me see the bright side through the good and bad times
His kindness and thoughtfulness, he always goes out of his way to make his friends and family feel special and loved.
His goofiness’, never fails to make me laugh.

Who proposed and how?

Joe did, it was completely spur of the moment, he made the decision to propose one afternoon, and then he did, that night. This was during the pandemic and did it at our flat with a plastic bottle cap as there were no shops open.
He then worked on a ring design after the pandemic and decided to propose again at my favourite beach in Sydney so I was lucky enough to say Yes twice!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

In the MWL boutique in Sydney, it was the only dress shop I visited. Before going into the shop I thought my dress would be Louie Flowy after seeing it online but when I tried on Lucy V2 I fell in love with the simplicity of its silhouette and beautiful flowy skirt and knew it was the one as all I wanted to do was swish around the shop!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

I will need to narrow this to my top 2..
1 – Our first look, we did it at Cremorne Point in Sydney, right by the water looking over to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Not only is it a stunning location but has a lot of meaning for us as this was where we had hours of lockdown walks together talking about anything and everything.
2 – My dads speech, he’s not confident with public speaking and is usually not a man of many words so it was super special for me for him to deliver the most wonderful speech

What were your favourite details?

Having a small intimate wedding of 30 people, being so comfortable in my dress and our limoncello toast instead of a cake cutting

What advice would you tell other brides?

Don’t be afraid to make wedding decisions that are best for you and your partner.

Any standout vendors?

All of them, Whitehouse flowers created the most beautiful arrangements using Aussie natives we kept the brief open and they delivered! Ben Ager our celebrant created the perfect personalised ceremony for us Tillee Music were fantastic as setting the vibe. Pilu for the most fantastic meal I’ve had at a wedding (bit biased) and Hello Sweethearts for capturing the day perfectly.
