Gaby + Nick

How did you meet?

We met where all good love stories began, at the pub 9 years ago. Our memory is probably a bit foggy with the $3 drinks, but we both remember a drunken first kiss on the dance floor and Nick handing me his phone number while singing Call me Maybe. We ended up going on our first date shortly after and have been inseparable ever since. Turns out we had many many mutual friends having gone to the same high school, we just never knew it!

How did you know they were the one?

It didn’t take long that’s for sure. There wasn’t a defining moment, it was just an instant feeling of comfort. We became best friends and were inseparable as soon as we started getting to know each other.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Nick is too funny to handle, there’s never a dull moment when he is around.
He is the hardest worker I know, always going out of his way to help anyone and achieve our goals.
And that he is so loyal, he absolutely adores his family and my family. We can’t wait to start our own (turns out the wedding night must’ve worked well, as we are expecting early 2022!)

Who proposed and how?

Nick proposed on a trip to Sydney on St Patricks Day 2019. Like most things in our life, things didn’t quite go to plan. A sunny trip to the beach turned into torrential rain in the city all weekend long. Similar as we met, we were bar-hopping with friends all day long and once he had enough liquid courage he was going to pop the question. By the end of the day, we were admiring the city lights, standing under the Opera House at which point he dropped to one knee so suddenly that I literally thought he tripped over. The nerves took over, he quickly mumbled “will you marry me?’ and stood up again. I was so in shock over what just happened that I never got to officially say Yes.

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

We weren’t going to get married anywhere other than our own private property we spent years trying to buy. We had to bring in everything to host a wedding in the middle of a field, DIY everything, and every little detail was done with a lot of love and a whole bunch of effort. Finally walking down the aisle and just seeing it all become a reality was my absolute favorite moment.
We already had our original wedding postponed due to Covid, the majority of my family is from overseas and was unable to attend. We had hoped for an outdoor ceremony in the sunshine, but instead, it was pouring rain and everyone squished into the reception marquee and made it work.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I had been following MWL on social media for years, waiting till it was my turn! When the new season of dresses had dropped I instantly fell in love with the River gown just from a few photos online. Literally, nothing I had ever seen had compared to the stunning layers of the skirt. I was obsessed. My mum’s birthday was coming up and she was so excited about the wedding like me that dress shopping was her wish for her day. So off we went. The River gown was the very first and very last dress I tried on. It was a done deal then and there.
I added the Tulle Bows on after for just a little extra comfort being someone that doesn’t usually go sleeveless, and I think they made the perfect addition – you can never have enough tulle!

What were your favourite details?

Our ceremony and reception felt so homey and cosy, with all our guests it was filled with love you could feel it . Everything we used we had either been purchasing over the last couple of years or making from scratch. Our goal is to one day turn our property into an actual wedding venue so getting to be the very first to use it and see it all come together was a total dream!

What advice would you tell other brides?

Everyone will say it – the day goes so unbelievably fast. Make sure to be present in every moment and enjoy it all. Ask your bridesmaids, family, everyone to capture absolutely everything as I’m sure there will be so many more moments to remember than you can.

Any standout vendors?

Everyone did such an amazing job it’s impossible to pick favorites. But I would definitely shout out to our amazing videographer Ed @ Blue Vale Films that captured the day. I’ve watched our wedding video at least a million times and it still feels so surreal to see all the amazing footage, it feels like I’m reliving the day over and over again.
