Fiona + Grant

How did you meet?

We met working at a Trade Union Club over 10 years ago. A mutual friend of ours set up our dinner break one shift to make sure we could be left alone in the staff room as she knew we would hit it off right away

When did you know they were the one?

Grant was a little too good to be true right from the start, however after a while it became clear we were two parts of a whole and no matter what we would always come back to each other. So after a few months, we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend and never looked back.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Grant is confident, self-assured and ambitious…three things that I have always struggled with myself. He taught me to aim high, be confident in my own skills and abilities and to never doubt myself. He has always been my biggest cheerleader, and has led us to achieve some amazing goals together that I never would have even dreamt to set for myself.

Who proposed and how?

We had just bought our first house together and had started renovating. Once we had finished some key elements making the house start to feel like a home, Grant had arranged to take me out for dinner on a gondola ride along the Gold Coast waterways however the weather had other plans (an eerily similar story to when my Dad first began plans to propose to my Mum many years ago). Grant quickly turned it around by organising an amazing set up in our living room and surprising me with the most perfect proposal before taking me out for celebratory champagne and dinner.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I first saw the Harlow gown on Instagram and immediately knew I had to try it on. Although I never pictured myself in a fitted dress it was the perfect mix of elegant and fun. It was the first dress I had tried in person that instantly felt like I was meant to wear it on my wedding day. As we were having a Church ceremony, I loved the idea of having detachable sleeves that I could remove after for the reception and had already seen and fallen in love with the Peony Bows which Nat (from MWL Sydney) was able to find for me to try. The combination was perfect.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Our first dance! Leading up to the day this was what I was most nervous about, however being outside under the festoon light with all of our guests holding sparklers and serenading us while we danced was the most perfect moment I will never forget. Every time I hear our song “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” or see a clip from that moment I instantly tear up.

What were your favourite details?

Besides my dress, I felt exceptionally special wearing my ceremony shoes which were my Mum’s wedding shoes that my sister also wore for her wedding. The styling that was provided by our vendors was everything we wanted and more and made the day 100% perfect.

What advice would you tell other brides?

I very much over planned, created individual run sheets, spreadsheets etc for everything which caused some stress in the lead up however it made me so calm and relaxed on the day knowing I had done everything I could. I would highly encourage asking a bridesmaid, close friend or family member that you trust to help with certain items throughout the day and to be the main contact for vendors to ask questions if something comes up. Our day went exceptionally smoothly however I felt so calm knowing my bridesmaids and brother were on hand for certain jobs that I wouldn’t have to worry about.
