Emilee + Navada

How did you meet?

My husband (Nevada) and I met ten years ago at a bar in Brisbane City. I had just moved to Brisbane to start a new chapter of my life and to be honest, I wasn’t looking for a relationship.
However, I spotted Nevada when my best friend and I entered the bar. I remember feeling my heart skip a beat when we locked eyes. I told her straight away that I wanted to talk to that tall, dark handsome man! We ended up chatting and my best friend and I ended up joining Nevada and his friends out in the city. There were plenty of laughs, he was fun, so we swapped numbers and the rest is history!

When did you know they were the one?

I knew Nevada was the one when we started working away in Canberra just after we had officially started dating. Being a poor uni student and living in a shared house, he always made sure I had food, and money to get to uni and that I was ok. I felt so cared for and safe when I was with him. Plus, he makes me laugh every single day (and still does to this day). From then he stole my heart!

Who proposed and how?

Nevada proposed when we were on holiday in Vanuatu in 2018. We had talked about getting married before he proposed and I had picked out a few promise rings I liked as we wanted to design my engagement ring together. So little did I know he had purchased a ring and had it with him during our holiday.
We hired a car and went on a day trip around the island. We stopped at the Blue Lagoon on Efate and decided to go for a swim with the GoPro. We found a tree log in the water and were standing on it in the lagoon. Nevada asked me to come over to the end of the log to look at something. I thought he was joking or was going to scare me so I was reluctant at first! Then I finally made my way over and he pulled this ring out of his pocket and asked me to marry him! I was blown away and was suprised… and little did we know the GoPro was still recording so we captured the whole thing!!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I fell in love with my dress back in 2019 when two of my closest girlfriends and I went to the Gold Coast boutique. I had been eyeing this dress off for years, literally! I was so excited to find a modern bridal boutique that had stunning classic pieces. As soon as I put the Lucy dress on I knew it was the one. I was sold!!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

The best moment for me at the wedding was walking down the aisle and seeing my stunning husband at the end of the aisle waiting for me. Knowing that this was finally happening!
We were unlucky with the pandemic disrupting our wedding plans. We originally set a date in 2020, however, during the pandemic we had to postpone our wedding four times. The last time we cancelled as it was too upsetting for us both. There was a positive that came from all of this… during this challenging time, we welcomed our beautiful daughter into the world.

What were your favourite details?

Where do I even begin!?
Everything about our wedding was amazing!
Most of our families and friends live outside of Queensland, so having everyone together was great. Everyone had the best day and we had so many beautiful compliments about the wedding.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Do not anyone else influence your choices for your wedding. It is your day.
I chose not to let anyone in on the finer details, like seating plans, colour scheme, favours, music, food choices etc. and it was the best thing I could do. I have heard of lots of people feeling pressured by family or guests to have certain things at their wedding. It’s not up to them, it’s about you and your partner, so make sure you do it!!
