Destiny + Cooper

How did you meet?

Crazy enough, we’ve been classmates since grade 4 (elementary school). We had flings off and on, but officially started dating at the end of our grade 12 year (2017). We’re high school sweethearts!!

When did you know they were the one?

I admit it. I was stubborn. I made a pact with myself to stay single until university as I didn’t wanted to see what was out there (we come from a very small town – we had a graduating class of 11 students!). I continued to decline my (now) husbands advances, but then he started dating another girl, which he says was to make me realize I would miss him and I do want to be with him. Well, he was right (hate to admit it). It worked. At this point I couldn’t see myself with anyone else and I didn’t want to see him with anyone else. We were best friends for many years and I couldn’t imagine not being with my BFF for life.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

1) His humour. He is always known as a funny guy. He usually will whisper a joke at me and one of his friends will pick it up and claim it as his own because he’s usually too shy to say it out loud. He makes me cheeks hurt from all the laughing we have.
2) his kindness. He never says no to helping anyone out. If a friend or even my family asks for a hand, Cooper is out there doing what he can to help. He also is super kind to me and treats me like a princess.
3) His bright blue eyes, of course!

Who proposed and how?

Cooper proposed at the end of my work day, before we were heading out to see family over the August long weekend. He texted me to ask if we could leave early in the morning, rather than that evening so we could have a picnic at sunset at our city’s lake/park. I knew something was up because neither of us are morning people. Sure enough he proposed at sunset. It was beautiful.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

Bridal Boutique in Regina, SK, Canada. The staff there are AMAZING. They dealt with my indecisiveness so kindly and even let me come back at the end of the day to try my dress on again before I bought it. They had all my favourite dress designers.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

I had a couple. So, rather than a first look with my husband I had a first look with my dad. It was so emotional and he actually bawled. We also exchanged vow letters prior to the ceremony to read to ourselves (and our videographer) rather than saying them at the ceremony as we prefer intimate moments like that. It prepared us for the ceremony and got all the jitters and high emotions out of the way.

What were your favourite details?

I wore my late-grandmothers jewelry and had one of her necklaces which happened to have a blue stone (something blue) wrapped around my bouquet. She was my only grandparent not in attendance so it was really important that I honoured her in some way. I also ironed a picture of my dad and I when I was a baby onto the back of his tie.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Take things slow. Enjoy your engagement. In the frazzle and excitement of wedding planning, we tend to forget why we’re here in the first place. Spend time with your partner and make decisions together. Nothing needs to be rushed. I wish I had a 2-year engagement rather than 1, because I miss that time spent with my fiancé.

Any standout vendors?

My photographer and videographers – Rick and Sandra Davis. They were so so helpful and the photos and video turned out better than we could have imagined.

Also our reception venue, Hotel Saskatchewan, Regina, was top tier. Excellent customer service, assistance with wedding planning, food, etc. It was one of my favourite aspects of our wedding.
