Colleen + Mike

How did you meet?

High School! It was Colleen’s junior year and Mikey’s senior (2009). We were put into the same electives class and after a few months, Colleen agreed to go on a date with Mikey. He brought her to see ‘ He’s just not that into you’ which turns out we were both in fact into each other.

After many visits to Bentley University (Mikey’s alma mater) and the University of New Hampshire (Colleen’s), lots of trips (domestic & abroad including Mikey living in Portugal for a few months), a South Boston apartment, 2 dogs, and eventually a house in Boston later, we’ve been pretty inseparable ever since. At 16 i had no idea the senior football player that was in one of my classes would turn out to be my best friend, my calm and my rock.

When did you know they were the one?

There wasn’t one exact moment but more so a 1000 strung together. The little moments like flowers on a Monday, to planning the most spontaneous & wonderful trips and building the most perfect house for us to start this new chapter.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

He’s the most selfless & generous human being I know, driven, very spontaneous (always eager to plan random trips), and has an incredible way of making people feel like they’re his best friend even if you only met him an hour ago. Plus, he can make me belly laugh.

Who proposed and how?

Mikey proposed over Labor Day Weekend in 2021 on a beach on Cape Cod, MA. Colleen’s family has a summer home in Popponesset and she’s spent every summer there since middle school. He popped the question during a LDW cookout and had organized a surprise party with immediate family & close friends afterwards. We spent the night eating, drinking, and having dance parties. Popponesset has become such a special place for the both of us– so much so that we tied the knot at the Popponesset Inn (less than) a year later.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

My mom and I visited two boutiques in Beacon Hill in Boston and although the dresses were stunning and exactly what I thought I wanted, something was missing. I had a deposit down on one and decided to visit Vows in Watertown, MA to check out the MWL dresses I had been swooning over online.

I tried on Harlow, then Archie (just to mix in something more modern) but the second I put on the Harlow I knew that was it. I love the romantic details, the 3D lace, scoop neck and plunging back, THE BELT, and we can’t forget the delicate buttons. I knew we were getting married on the beach and this dress has subtle sparkle yet also lace that resembles coral, and most importantly, I could dance, eat & drink with our incredible family and friends.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Halfway through the reception our band played a song that Mikey and I both love and we joined them on stage belting the words and singing & dancing on a packed dance floor.

What were your favourite details?

Our escort cards, ginger jars, the hanging floral display, lanterns and center pieces (photos of Mikey & I at different places we’ve traveled) and the napkins of our two pups.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Have a wedding that’s unique and perfect for YOU. Live for the candid moments, good people (or not, if you elope!), and soak it all in. The best piece of advice I got on my wedding day was to step aside for just a minute and take it all in–watch all your favorite people, in one place, celebrating you, and a room full of love
