Claire + John

How did you meet?

We met through a workout group in our city and quickly became part of the same friend circle. We were friends for over a year while we dated other people. We both always had crushes on the other but it took a while before the timing was right.

When did you know they were the one?

We took a trip to Victoria, BC where we hiked, kayaked, and camped. We had the most amazing trip and we both agree that’s when we both knew.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

He is unfailingly kind to everyone in his life, he has the driest sense of humour I’ve ever encountered, and he is the most loving and generous partner I could imagine.

Who proposed and how?

John proposed. We were in midcoast Maine during the height of the Covid pandemic, hunkering down in a little cabin by the sea. I had suggested we go on a sunrise walk to a lighthouse near by. The morning came and it was so early. I was so tired that I asked if we could just sleep in instead. John dragged me out of bed and made sure we got out to the lighthouse at sunrise. He set up a camera on a tripod so we could get a picture together, then he got down on one knee! It was so unexpected and romantic and the pictures are amazing!!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I loved the simplicity of the Tommy cut and how romantic it looked. I normally am more of a conservative dresser so I definitely wanted to try something a little different for my wedding and Tommy was it. I could dance in it all night and I barely had to make any alterations; it fit like a glove.

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

Our wedding was one giant moment that I never want to forget. Obviously the best moment was when we finally said “I do”, but I think also having our wedding on the tail end of the Covid pandemic, one of the best things was being able to see so many family and friends that we hadn’t been able to see in so long.

What were your favourite details?

My husband is a designer and woodworker. He actually found this old hay barn that was on his family’s property and decided to take the year before our wedding to turn it into a wedding venue. Every little detail from that barn is something that he made for our day, right down to the tables that we ate at. It made the day that much more special.

Aside from our venue, I spent a lot of time coordinating my bridesmaids to have their dresses mix and match in the perfect way and I’m so happy with the outcome. Those plus the flowers made the look perfect!

What advice would you tell other brides?

Our weather was not ideal. It was the beginning of summer and it was cold and raining. We were really upset about it leading up to the day, but once the wedding got going, it really didn’t matter. We had such an amazing time and looking back on it, the weather is just something we laugh about now.

Any standout vendors?

Our photographer, Katlyn Sernak, and her aunt, Stephanie Sernak, who did our flowers. We were blown away with both!
