Celine + Daan

How did you meet?

We met in 2013 during an event of Daan’s student fraternity in Leuven, Belgium. His fraternity organised a big water balloon fight for 15.000 students. He walked by and I immediately felt attracted to him. I wrote my phone number on the back of a flyer and gave it to him with a shy blush on my cheeks. A few days later, I got a text message from Daan with an invitation to meet for drinks. Although we dated for a year, we, unfortunately, lost contact as Daan left Belgium to study abroad.

Two years later we randomly bumped into each other at a local festival. We talked for hours and I was instantly head over heels. He clearly felt the same way, as he invited me for dinner afterward. We started our relationship after only a month of dating. It all felt so right and easy :-).

When did you know they were the one?

I knew he was the one from the first time we met. It feels very weird, but when you know … you just know. Daan is such a kind-hearted person, you’ll feel it the minute you talk to him.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Daan is the most unique person I’ve ever met. He taught me to enjoy life more and to seize every day.
He makes the biggest effort to understand my feelings end thoughts, which makes communicating with each other so easily.
Daan takes care of my family as if they were his own.

Who proposed and how?

Daan set up a ‘scam’ with a glamping host. The host launched an IG giveaway to win a glamping weekend which was set up in favor of me to win.
We had the most romantic weekend in the middle of nowhere. Daan went on his knee to pop the question during a breakfast picnic in an orchard

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I’ve been a MWL fan ever since I made an account on Pinterest. MWL dresses were the first dresses I pinned on my secret wedding board in my early (single) twenties.
When I found out there was an MWL trunkshow in the Netherlands, I immediately booked an appointment to have a fitting together with my mom, sisters, and bestie. I tried on different MWL dresses, but one stood out: the Tommy dress with the Lola lace fabric.

I also bought the Lola pants, as it was the perfect outfit for the pizza night we organised for all our guests, the night before the wedding.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

The whole day was just fantastic. Every moment of it was pure joy. But if I really have to choose…

We hired a band that played old Italian songs during dinner. Once the band started playing the famous Bella Ciao song, our guests went through the roof! People started dancing like crazy and before we knew it, Daan and I were both put on chairs and held up in the air. Loved it!

The ceremony was led and written by a befriended couple, which made the experience really personal. Our parents, sisters, brother, and best friends were asked to tell some stories of us individually and as a couple. The magic we felt during our first kiss as husband and wife was the icing on the cake.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Do not stress about your day and enjoy the ride! As we chose to have our wedding abroad, I felt a huge pressure towards our guests to really make it worth their travel hours and costs. I was stressing about it for months, but during our wedding day, it became very clear that our guests were there because they love us and want to share their love and happiness with us, not because they wanted to attend the most ‘perfect’ wedding party.
