Ashleigh + Joshua

How did you meet?

Josh and I actually went to high school together, never knowing each other until 3 years after year 12. My best friend introduced us at the local pub in our home town Mansfield. We hit it off straight away although it was bittersweet feeling as I was moving to Canada in 3 weeks. Our relationship was on and off for a few years until he finally locked me down in 2016.

How did you know he was the one?

I knew he was the one while I was in Canada. He fought for us so hard, I couldn’t stay away from him. He was different, he was ‘the one’.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His sense of humour, kindness and his goofiness.

Who proposed and how?

Josh proposed in October 2018. We were on a beautiful holiday in the Maldives. I will also mention he had this planned for 12 months and all of our family and friends knew. It was the first night of our second week there and we were staying in an overwater bungalow, I was at the resorts salon getting my nails done (I know, how good was that timing) and was meeting him on our private balcony for the sunset after. He told me he wanted to take some photos of me looking at the sunset and when I turned back around he was on one knee. I screamed!!!! The poor guy was waiting for an answer and all I could do was scream. Eventually I calmed down and I remember him saying “so is it a yes?”.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I had been to a few appointments at different Bridal Boutiques but I never got that ‘this is my dress’ feeling. One night I was scrolling through instagram and came across the Carla gown, I instantly knew I needed to try it on. The next day I booked an appointment at my local stockist. As soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one.

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

This question is so hard to answer because everything was so amazing. Going off for sunset photos, just being with Josh, finally married was something so special but during our ceremony our two good friends who were actually our MC’s had created a rap of our love story, it was the best surprise ever. I also have to mention our speeches, they were out of this world, all 164 guests were involved and it was just so much fun the whole way through.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Take a change of shoes to dance in, I took my cowgirl boots and it was much more comfortable to dance the night away in. Oh and also make sure you try and take it all in as much as you can, it goes so fast so I would suggest getting a videographer so you can relive it whenever you want to.

What did you do differently?

Honestly…. Nothing.
