Alisha + Shane

How did you meet?

Shane and I met while both working for Turner Broadcasting (Alisha working for the news network, CNN, and Shane working for TNT/TBS). Although we were on a separate teams in separate divisions, our paths continuously collided for nearly two years before we both decided we owed it to ourselves to explore the constant coincidental signs the universe was giving us. We went on our first date – which was to a local neighbourhood cocktail bar (and the rest is history!).

When did you know they were the one?

When I realised I could truly and unapologetically be myself around him – and that he ALWAYS embraced it. Being around him gave me this indescribable ease and peace that I’d never experienced before.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His drive and determination, his unwavering loyalty and commitment, and his ability to make me laugh at just about anything.

Who proposed and how?

Shane proposed while we were on a trip to Atlanta, Georgia. We spent our last couple nights of the trip a little outside the city in the most idyllic, small town – Roswell, GA – and Shane suggested we go on an early morning walk the two of us to the most historic point in the town, which was a 200+ year old cotton mill. He got down on one knee (which was truly the LAST thing I was expecting) while we were mid-way through a walk across the river on the Roswell Mill’s noteworthy – and picture perfect – ‘covered bridge.’

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

The dress actually threw me for a loop, since I was almost certain I’d go with a classic, structured crepe for the big day. But as soon as I put this one on (as cliche as it sounds), I immediately knew the search was over. The intricate embellishments, the bustier-like bodice, and the way it just effortlessly seemed to move with my body…I could go on and on with my love for this dress!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Looking out at the reception and seeing 130+ of our favourite people dining and laughing by candlelight – on a 74 degree November night (we lucked out, as typical temp for that time of year is in the 50’s)!

What were your favourite details?

We had a lot of fun juxtaposing neutral tones with rich, layered textures – for example, a cluster of woven rattan lanterns hanging as a cocktail hour focal point – for dimension and added pops of visual interest. We sprinkled in some fun personal pieces of our own too, like an oversized wooden hutch for the reception seating chart display – with black and white photos of our grandparents, as well as a vintage ‘BAR’ sign that’s made it’s way through numerous family weddings. Another favourite were our reception chairs from Found Rentals – which we pretty much built our entire dinner set-up around. 🙂

What advice would you tell other brides?

The sooner you can secure your vendors, finalize details/selections, etc. – the better! Even with advanced preparation, you’d be surprised how much still manages to creep up on you in those last few weeks. It was important to us to make sure we were able to stay grounded and (somewhat) relaxed leading up to the big day, so that we could really enjoy it and soak it all in. You want to extend that same feeling through your actual wedding weekend, so make sure you have a solid team of vendors behind you so you’re able to fully be present in the moment.

Any standout vendors?

We were absolutely blown away by every single one of our vendors to be honest! With a special shout out to This Wild Romance – since our wedding album exceeded ALL of our expectations. We also had so much fun with our post-reception Desert Luna Photobooth, as well as SideCar Cocktails, who crafted the most incredible and unique signature drinks. Field To Table also nailed it with the food all weekend long (our guests couldn’t stop raving about it!)
