Alice + Luke

How did you meet?

My husband Luke and I met at university in Newcastle. where we were both studying physiotherapy. We didn’t really get to know each other properly until our final year, as we were in different classes.

When did you know they were the one?

I think I knew Luke was the one, when my friends commented that I was being authentically myself when we all hung out together. I never felt the need to pretend to be more than what I was, Luke accepted me completely for who I am.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

He is really kind and helpful. It’s the little things that he does without me having to ask, like getting the food shop or doing the dishes. He also randomly comes home with flowers for me, especially when I’m down. He just knows how to brighten my day.

Who proposed and how?

Luke proposed to me on Christmas Eve. It was the first Christmas I had been able to travel home due to Covid restrictions. He wanted to wait until I could be with all my family in person before proposing, so we could all celebrate together.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I bought my dress from a shop back in Northern Ireland called Ivy & White. I had travelled from England because my sister was heavily pregnant at the time and I wanted her to be with me when I found the one. Remi just had everything I wanted; lace, subtle sparkle, amazing shape. My mum and sister almost crying when I came out wearing it was the sign for me.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Honestly, seeing Luke looking super handsome in his tux at the end of the aisle. Seeing his chin wobble a little when I reached him and holding each others hand really tight during the ceremony.

What were your favourite details?

Remi is just a show stopper, she has everything! I think because the shape is so elegant and the train is flowy, Remi feels quite ethereal. I loved the 3D element of the lace and the little flat sequins catching the light.

Wedding details wise, my flowers and the table decorations were unreal. My florist Jen is a wizard, she’s incredible. I gave her an idea of what we would like, but told her to just do her thing of what looked good and she really delivered.

What advice would you tell other brides?

I personally hated wedding planning, I found it super stressful and put a lot of pressure on myself for everything to be perfect. I think my advice would be to trust the process, trust your vendors, trust your friends and family will do anything they can for you to help and trust your partner too. The day will be perfect whether it’s according to the paper plan or not, it goes so quickly – I massively under estimated just how quickly! Savour as much as you can on the day and hold your other half close so you don’t miss a thing.

Any standout vendors?

We adored our photographers. They made us feel so comfortable; couldn’t have imagined having anyone else now. And my make up artist Vic was brilliant and so sensitive what I wanted.
