Alexis + Matt

How did you meet?

Matt and I met in high school. We had the same first-period English class. We were good friends before we started dating our sophomore year and have been together since.

How did you know they were the one?

I always felt safe, cared for and comfortable around Matt. I also watched how well he treated his family and loved that about him. I knew he would be an amazing husband.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Matt is thoughtful, funny and makes the most out of every day. I learn so much from him.

Who proposed and how?

We were long distance for almost a year when Matt got the opportunity to move back to our hometown to continue his job. Around the same time, I flew back home after working in another state for a summer. Matt told me he wanted to take me to dinner with one of his clients and his wife. We were walking by the river before “dinner” and he got down on one knee! He even had a secret photographer. It was beautiful and special because it was just a couple miles from where we first met in high school.

What was the best moment for you at the wedding?

Right after our ceremony, Matt and I walked out of the church and had a moment of quiet and peace together as we soaked up the fact that we were finally married! It was a rare moment with just the two of us that we will always remember.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I found my dress at White Magnolia Bridal in Jacksonville, FL. It was my fourth dress appointment and I had tried on so many by that point. When I tried Andy on, I couldn’t stop looking at the dress in the mirror and I remember thinking, “If I don’t get this dress, I will always think about this dress.” I loved that Andy was classy, unique and sparkly all at the same time. It felt like a dress I would have picked off the rack if I were shopping on my own. I just loved it, and I listened to my inner voice before anyone else’s.

What were your favourite details?

My flowers! My florist and I (Lynette with Rose of Sharon) spent so much time bringing my floral vision to life. It started with a Pinterest board and evolved into a dream. I was in awe when I saw our reception space for the first time. Like my dress, the flowers were classy, unique and stunning. She did an outstanding job.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Try to be and feel present on your day! With so many people, a timeline, a checklist, etc., it’s easy to feel like you are going through the motions in a daze. Breathe and take it all in.
