Steffi + Matt

How did you meet?

We met at an external training for work when we both worked in Finance. As you can imagine those trainings aren’t usually very exciting but for us it was the best decision of our lives. I signed up for the training together with my bridesmaid Lisa, so she was there from the beginning. It was a one week training with a lot of group work and I instantly felt the spark when I saw Matt on the first day. The trainer took all of us to a restaurant on the last evening of the training and when everyone else went home afterwards, Lisa, Matt and me went on to a club. It was a very long night and the last day of the training was a tough one. But it was absolutely worth it! We had our first date only a few days later and were an official couple two weeks after we met.

When did you know they were the one?

I knew that it felt different from the relationships I had before during our first date and every single one that followed. But I knew he was the one when I came home after a long day at work and found a box set of Suits, different chocolates and a hand written note in my mail. We lived 30 minutes away at that time even though it was the same city and it meant a lot to me that he had taken the time to go to the stores and drive to my apartment. It showed that he’d do everything to make my day better and put me first – and he still does.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

He’s never afraid to show his feelings, he let’s me be my true self and is my biggest cheerleader and he connects with people very quickly, so I never need to be worried about taking him somewhere he barely knows anyone.

Who proposed and how?

Matt proposed on a trip to Berlin in March 2020. I was in Berlin for work for one week and he joined me for a long weekend before we went back to Cologne. We had a dinner reservation at a Sushi restaurant near our hotel and walked there. He initially planned to propose in a park nearby at a romantic pond but because it was March it was dark at the time we went for dinner and the park wasn’t lit at all. So I wanted to go straight to the restaurant. Later he told me that he couldn’t really enjoy the food because he was so nervous. So when we came back to the hotel when we had just taken off our coats and shoes, I turned around and he was on one knee with the ring in his hand. Honestly, I don’t remember his words (which is a shame) and all I could think was YES. It was the best proposal anyone ever got!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I saw Carla at Instagram and fell in love with it and the long cape instantly. I love something special and the cape definitely is! I tried on a few other dresses, but I knew it had to be Carla when I first tried it. The cape wasn’t available in store but I knew I had to have it.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

The moment my dad walked me down the aisle and I first saw Matt. It was like it was only the two of us and I only realized where our guests were sitting during the ceremony. This was the moment we had waited for for such a long time and it was finally here. That was also the time all the nervousness was gone and it was just about us.

What were your favourite details?

The cape! I absolutely love the cape and it’s embroidery. I wish I could wear it in my daily life and am looking forward to our first anniversary when we’ll wear our wedding dress and suit again at home.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Try not to think about what other people might think of you or expect from you. This is true for picking your dress and planning your big day. It is about you and your partner. Everyone else will have a good time when you do, don’t stress about it.

Any standout vendors?

We loved all of our vendors and wouldn’t do anything differently!
