Rhiannon + Ruairidh

How did you meet?

Myself and Ruairidh met through our church we both attended. He was in a conversation I was in and started chatting to me as if he had known me forever even though we had never met before! I was stubborn and formally introduced myself – and quickly realised how his ability to strike a conversation with anyone was part of his easy going charm!

When did you know they were the one?

I had a really tough time while I was organising a big event that was coming up around Christmas. I had come home from setting up the night before, absolutely exhausted and defeated. I had text Ruairidh when I had come home telling him how awful the evening had been and how so many things we’re going wrong and I was just defeated with it. He was kind and affirmed me and all the work I had done, and I was planning to go to bed as he was out with some friends. Just before midnight he was still texting me when I heard a knock on my door – I was skeptical to answer as it was so late but did anyway, and there was Ruairidh stood with two hot chocolates. He had left his friends a bit early so he could come and see me and bring me something to comfort me. We had only been dating around two months by this point which is super early on, but I knew his kind and caring nature was so rare and special that he was definitely one of a kind.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

1. His kind heart and love which extends to anyone around him. He will go to lengths to make sure there is no one left out and will go above and beyond to make help anyone in need
2. His weird and wonderful appreciation for any new thing he learns about. He will be fascinated and genuinely interested by most things and he has such an appreciation for the world we live in.
3. His silly side and sense of humour – life is too short to be serious all the time and he can pick you out of a serious slump with his cracking sense of humour!

Who proposed and how?

Ruairidh proposed to me on my favourite place on the Isle of Skye, where his family is from and we often visit and holiday. The spring before we got engaged we had spontaneously decided to go to a small beach on the other side of the island which we had never been to or really heard of. It was a long drive in the car on a super hot day and we were both really tired. However, none of that mattered when we came round a corner and started driving down the long steep hill, and on the right hand side across the water was the back of the spectacular Cuilin mountains. It was a super clear, blue sky day so the views were breath taking, I cried at how amazing it was. A few months later we went back, it was winter and the mountains had snow on the tops, and there was not a soul on the beach. We had the whole place to ourselves. With the mountains and clear sea in the background, Ruairidh went down on one knee – easiest yes ever!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

Honestly, it was the MWL Instagram! I saw Archie with his stunning back and simple, elegant front and I knew that it was perfect for me! For me, it was important for our wedding and my dress to be timeless and Archie is exactly that.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

During the ceremony, being able to look round and see all the people who we so dearly love and care about. Seeing them filled with joy and being able to celebrate our marriage with them is unmatched. As I was walking down the aisle I was just so joyful looking at the smiling, emotional faces around me – to the point I forgot to look at Ruairidh until the end of the aisle! But seeing his joyful face amongst our loved ones – incredible.

What were your favourite details?

It’s so hard to choose. Everything just felt like us. We made sure everything was relaxed and easy going. In the morning, my girls had made a playlist of all the songs which reminded them of me to listen to which was so sweet!

What advice would you tell other brides?

There will always be another trend or a wedding style that goes viral which you can feel envious of and wish you did things differently – but do not waste time over those things. Your wedding day is about you and your love, don’t worry about what is trending but curate your day around the things you both love – and focus on who is around you rather than what!
