Rae + Cody

How did you meet?

Cody and I both came into college at the same time, although our school was super small- I didn’t know Cody existed until the end of our First Semester. I remember telling my roommates there was this cute guy that lived above us in our apartment complex, always referring to him as, “The Boy Upstairs”, but I could never catch him walking down when my roommates were home. One day, I saw him coming down the stairs and called for my roommates to come to the window. When they saw him they said, “Rae! We know him. He goes to school with us!” It was a few weeks later (Jan 2020) that my roommates arranged a game night at my apartment and invited Cody & his roommates to come so we could meet.

Flash forward a few weeks from meeting, Cody asked me on our first official date, that happened to be on Valentine’s Day! From there we continued to go on dates and get to know one another. After some time spent apart, Cody and I realized that life was better spent together than apart. On January 25, 2021 Cody asked me to be his girlfriend! (Fun Fact: Cody is my first boyfriend) From then on we have been inseparable. From college, to trips, to college graduation, days at the lake, good days, sad days, and to starting our adult life- Cody has been by my side.

There is truly no one like Cody. Cody is a man after God’s own heart, my best friend, so incredibly determined, and truly chooses joy every day. He loves deeply and cares for people in the most genuine way. When you talk to Cody he makes you feel like you are worth a million bucks. He has the gift of being a gatherer and there is no one else in the world that I would want to build a life with but him. To know him is to love him.

When did you know they were the one?

From the day I met Cody I knew there was something special about him. He was so fun to be around, but most importantly I saw how pure his heart was. He made everyone in the room feel important. On February 18th, a little over a month into knowing Cody, I wrote in my journal that he was the one. I guess when you know, you know!

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Kind, funny, and caring.

Who proposed and how?

On February 23, 2022 Cody planned the most perfect proposal I could have thought about. From having me go to my old apartment where we first met (covered in rose petals may I add), to meeting him at a beautiful chapel, to surprising me with our friends and family and a party–the day could have not been more dreamy. He did amazing! It was the most special day ever!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I originally found MWL on Pinterest and knew that one of their dresses would be it for me. When I started to wedding planning process I immediately looked up the closest MWL retailer to me, there happened to only be one retailer in the state I live in and the store was 15 minutes from my house. I booked an appointment at Imperial Formal Wear and when I went in I told them I only wanted to try on Made With Love. As soon as I put Louie on I started to cry. Once they put the Harlow veil on my mom and all my friends were speechless. I knew then and there that was my dress. I had never felt more beautiful, comfortable in my own skin, and sexy.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

The best moment at our wedding for me was our private last dance. As everyone was lining up for the send-off, me and my husband took that moment to just soak in all that just happened. We slow danced to “This Is How You Fall In Love” by Chelsea Cultler and Jeremy Zucker. I have never felt like I was stuck in a moment in time, besides then. I felt like it was just me and my husband in that moment and I will never forget it. (Photo attached!)
