Rachel + Diego

How did you meet?

Diego and Rachel both moved to Federal Hill, a neighbourhood in Baltimore, to start dental school at the University of Maryland in August 2014. They had the option of taking a University Shuttle Bus or walking 20-25 minutes to school. On the very first day of dental school Rachel had planned to walk, but (and because of multiple factors completely out of her control) the very unlikely circumstance would have it that she was running late. She headed for the bus stop and just like a 90’s romcom would predict – it was at the Federal Hill bus stop where Diego was already waiting. Diego was wearing Raybans (the Justin frames). “Who is this sultry brunette approaching the bus stop?” He thought. Unsure if it was a mirage or real life, Diego lowered his sunglasses as a breeze caught her hair and blew it back from her face in a way that marvels the likes of the great Beyoncé. After closing his mouth (his jaw had dropped open), their introduction was made. The rest is history.

When did you know they were the one?

It wasn’t an exact moment but the culmination of a friendship turned deeper into something that I couldn’t live without.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Intelligent, resilient, sexy as hell.
I’m a strong independent woman *claps* and I love that Diego is my equal. We are both intelligent and challenge/push each other. He is resilient. He has lived through the tragedy of losing his mother to cancer and instead of letting it break him – he is determined to live life more fully and to love more deeply. He is confident and that is sexy as hell. Plus he has a really fking dreamy face.

Who proposed and how?

He proposed  behind the bar where we had our first kiss 5 years before. We had dinner overlooking the inner harbour of Baltimore followed by drinks where my family and close friends where waiting to surprise me. It was a total surprise and was one of the most thoughtful acts he’s ever done for me. Although in hindsight I wish I had a clue because I def would have worn a diff outfit!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I found my dress at Lovey Bride in Georgetown DC. As soon as I put it on I could imagine myself at our venue, under a flower arch, marrying Diego. I loved its intricate detail and elegance. It was understated yet somehow still shows rolling.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Our first look. We decided to do a first look and exchanged private vows at that time. It was the most intimate and special moment we’ve ever shared. While the ceremony was gorgeous and the party was a total eager – this secret moment I had with my husband is my favourite memory of the day.

What were your favourite details?

The flowers!! The scenery!!! We chose our venue because of the gorgeous scenery. It looks like A Tuscan vineyard. We were blessed with the most beautiful day in September weather wise. A perfect sunset. The design theme was “Tuscan sunset” and I’m just convinced we had a guardian angel pulling strings with the weather gods to make it all come together. The florals complemented the sunset, the bridesmaids dresses and surroundings perfectly. It was the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to and that’s just my unbiased opinion.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Have fun and be happy. Soak it all in because it goes by so fast and make time for a private moment with your husband.

Any standout vendors?

We had a great vendor team. The florist (@daysofmayflorals) was excellent.
The photog (@danileighphotography), planner (@christinemcfarlaneevents), and videographer (@yourstorytold) I would recommend to anyone. The team of girls at the venue (@stonetowerweddings) also went above and beyond.
