Olivia + Matt
How did you meet?
When I was a junior in high school, I spotted Matt in a crowd at a concert and told my friends, “that guy is the love of my life. I’m going to marry him!” Matt and his friends adorned goofy thrift store sweaters and danced along side my friends, but I never actually said hello! After the concert, full of regret, I was looking through tweets about the concert we were at, and one of his friends proclaimed “The concert was so great! We were the ones in the sweaters.” I reached out and let Matt’s friend know I was interested in Matt. He gave me Matt’s number and I reached out! Matt was a sophomore in college at the time. We went on a date or two, but it was bad timing since I was in high school and he was in college. We stayed in touch throughout the years and eventually started dating officially when we were both in college!
When did you know they were the one?
There wasn’t an exact moment, but rather, many late night conversations, long drives, vacations near and far, breakfasts at our favorite local dive bar, and Netflix marathons snuggled up on the couch that slowly, but surely told me he was “the one!”
What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?
Matt is so passionate about everything he loves, he is kind and generous in the most special way – never expecting recognition or anything in return, and he supports my dreams unwaveringly.
Who proposed and how?
Matt proposed in front of The Cathedral of Learning at The University of Pittsburgh where I went to college and in the neighborhood where we truly fell in love! After, he surprised me with a nice dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, and after dinner, he surprised me by inviting all of our friends and family to a roof-top bar to celebrate with us!
Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?
I fell in LOVE with my DRESSES at Blanc de Blanc in Pittsburgh. I adored Rosey, but knew I wouldn’t want to take the matching veil off during the reception. I fell in love with Lola, but wanted a little more coverage for my cathedral ceremony. My mom suggested I get both, and it was a match made in heaven!
What was the best moment for you at your wedding?
My husband and I had a beautiful first look, shared vows that we wrote ourselves during the ceremony, and shared a VERY special first dance after taking lessons in the months leading up! And of course… lots of dancing!
What were your favourite details?
We offered a large “Pittsburgh cookie table” with our sparkly 5-tier cake at the center. We customized our bar with a favorite line from a poem: You are my sun, my moon, and all my stars.” We offered a signature cocktail named after our sweet pup: Luna’s Love Potion. Each guest was greeted by a personalized thank you note. We opted for a black and white checkered dance floor. Everything was perfect!
What advice would you tell other brides?
Be present and don’t sweat the small stuff!
Any standout vendors?
All of them, but our wedding planner, videographer, photographer, and dj truly went above in beyond. Not only did they offer a stellar final product, but they also brought so much energy and positivity to the day. Our florist perfectly fulfilled my vision as well!
