Libby + Kevin

How did you meet?

One day, after my 8am data structures class, I turned around to ask the guy behind me if he was free after class to collaborate on homework. I was delighted to hear that he was, indeed, free – and had no idea that he wasn’t actually free, he was skipping class to study with me. Y’know, priorities.

When did you know they were the one?

When graduation time rolled around, the big question surfaced. What happens next? We both moved to Austin and started our post-grad lives together in a beautiful rental home that my good friend, Arianna, found for us. We learned a lot of lessons during that time – like what it means to foster a real partnership in the context of adult life. After a year or so of that, we knew for sure: we are life partners.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Kevin is, without a doubt, and have always been, the smartest guy that I have ever met. (Or… sorry dad, at least the smartest guy around my age). He has high ideals and aspirations, he is kind and empathetic, and his intentions are pure and true.

Who proposed and how?

After a late dinner at the beach with my parents, Kevin told me we needed to go and scout an airbnb for his sister’s husband’s parents. A likely story. I believed him though, and showed up with my camera phone ready to record all the details. When we made it to the top of the stairs Kevin chuckled and stopped me, telling me he had a question to ask.
I fell on the floor and cried. I am not a cute crier. After some time for me to compose myself, he reminded me about the brand new ring in his hand and I put it on my finger. We walked down to the beach where our family was waiting with smiles and champagne to toast. The next morning, we all had brunch on the beach.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

Blue Bridal Boutique in Austin. I knew I wanted two dresses. Lola was glamorous and eye-catching, exactly what I wanted for my reception. Archie was classic and beautiful, the timeless vision I had for my ceremony.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Giving handwritten vows in an intimate setting. We were able to say everything we wanted to say without any nervousness or reservation.

What were your favourite details?

Torchy’s taco truck, raspberry champagne flavored cake, and comfortable shoes.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Don’t let the opinions of others dictate what your day looks like. Whether it’s totally traditional, something crazy and different, big and extravagant, or simple and stress-free: let your wedding be something that creates meaning for you and your partner
