Lauren + Nick

How did you meet?

Nick and I met at work- we are both primary school teachers at the same school. I remember our first meeting, in the photocopy room at school. So romantic haha- but I clearly remember it, and thought wow, I’m going to marry that man. I don’t know how or when, but I just knew. A few years later- it happened.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Nick is the most genuine, caring and respectful person I have ever met. He will always go out of his way to look after everyone around him. I love that about him. He’ll make you feel like the most important person in the room.

Who proposed and how?

Nick proposed to me while we were staying in Noosa for his birthday. I’d surprised him with little getaway (during the pandemic so we had to holiday close to home!), and little did I know he had his own surprise organised. I had noticed he’d been weird all day, asking if I was ok…weirdly anxious while we were on the beach- it makes sense now why he wouldn’t go in the water, he had a ring in his pocket all day! Just as we were getting ready to go out for dinner, Nick got down on one knee in the hallway of our hotel room- his kids were there too to witness the moment which made it all the more special. In amongst the chaos of the kids asking where the remote is and asking what was happening, Nick asked me to marry him. He said he’d been trying all day and just hadn’t found the right moment. I said yes of course- and we went straight out the door to a beautiful dinner at an Italian restaurant on Hastings St. I think my head was spinning a thousand miles an hour. It’s a great memory we often laugh about.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

The best moment for me at the wedding was taking a quiet moment to go upstairs at our venue and look around at all our friends and family having the best time of their life. It was such a special moment and one I’ll never forget. We had an absolutely horrible few weeks before the wedding, with covid sweeping QLD like wildfire- we had around 20 guests who weren’t able to attend, including some of my best friends. I was just so grateful that we got to the wedding and we got married that I was just beaming with happiness.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I had a bit of trouble finding my perfect dress. Bridal stores weren’t open (due to the pandemic) so I was ordering a lot of different styles online, but nothing felt right. I had seen the made with love styles on Instagram and just fell in love with them. On a sporadic trip with a girlfriend, I decided to book an appointment at the Made with Love store at the Gold Coast. With the help of Rosey, I tried on a few different styles. I’d had my heart set on Lola. But the last dress I tried on was Archie, and before I even walked out to the mirror I knew she was the one. Classy and just the right amount of sexy- what a dress!

What were your favourite details?

My flowers were insanely beautiful and a complete surprise for me on the day. I’d asked for flexed long stemmed roses for my bouquet, but had no idea what style our florist would create on the day for us at the ceremony. That was so special for me.

Also, our bridal car was such a special moment for us- I hired a vintage cream Ford Mustang- and the quiet moment it gave Nick and I on the day when we were going back to the reception was amazing. So fun!! You could not have wiped the smiles from our faces.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Write a list including everything you love about weddings and the things you don’t. Only do things that spark joy- it’s so hard but it’s so important to not succumb to the pressure of organising someone else’s wedding- it has to reflect who you and your partner are. At the end of the day it really does fly by in a moment, and you want it to be all about you and your favourite things. Tradition is out the window- I love that!

Any standout vendors?

I organised my entire wedding from Instagram! Every person we had to create our wedding day were absolutely incredible. I highly recommend Love Bird Weddings who created our ceremony set up. Absolute professionals and such classy styling. Our florist- Oh Honey Florals was another standout- her work was so stunning. She even added Tuberose to our arrangements (whose perfume comes out at night) so that every time I smell this flower it will remind us of our wedding day. I love those special touches.

Lauren Montgomery and Sass and Nikki did my hair and makeup on the day and I could not recommend them more. Absolutely beautiful girls who create the most stunning bridal looks. Lastly, our photographer Jac Lee (It’s Jac Lee photography) just knocked it out of the park. I loved how she captured such real and beautiful moments.
