Kayla + Ian

How did you meet?

The dating scene of Bumble! After taking a hiatus on bumble I messaged Ian again and we had instant chemistry and I instantly regretted stopping talking to him. We met shortly after and both “skunked” (crib game term) each other in the first two games we played and from then on instantly created the never ending competition between us on who’s better in card games. 🙂

When did you know they were the one?

After my mom was emergently admitted to the hospital on Christmas Day a few years ago, the next four months was the hardest thing my family had ever endured. And Ian was beside my sister the entire time, never wavering from his support and basically being the rock I needed to get through Moms health issue.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

His selflessness. Not only with everyone he loves but in everyday life, he’s a police officer and gives wholeheartedly to his job every day.
His hands. I can’t even hold his hands with mine because they are so big, so I hold his pinky when we hold hands.
His patience. I’m a stubborn hot head at time and boy oh boy does he have such wonderful patience to be with me.

Who proposed and how?

He proposed at Moraine Lake, Alberta. We took a day trip to stay overnight just to get away on our days off from shift work together and we took the evening to go take in the beautiful lake scenery. Little did I know he organized five of our best friends to be there waiting and having one of my longest, closest friends capture our engagement with her amazing photography skills, I truly felt on top of the world that day.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I bought my dress at Novelle Bridal in Edmonton. I had looked online and instantly fell in love with it before I even seen it in real life. It was the first dress I tried on and literally the one that stayed in my mind until I said yes to it. I loved the detail in it. It was something so different with its design with the low back and bodice shape. I literally felt like a goddess with it on. One of the most incredible qualities of Made with Love dresses is you literally can not find another dress exactly like it. It is so authentically different and beautiful!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

My favorite moment of my wedding was my first look with my Dad and reading my own personal vows to Ian in private. My Dad and I have such a close bond, I’m a Dads girl so seeing the look on his face I’ll never forget it.
The vow sharing with Ian gave us a chance to speak from the heart, add some humor and just give each other our most vulnerable selves in private, it was so incredible and beautiful. We made a time capsule and in five years time we’re going to open up the capsule, read our vows again and share a bottle of wine together!

What were your favourite details?

Our florals were by far my favorite details….that is of course besides my dress.
Our signature drinks were such a staple too, everyone loved them. My drink was a cucumber gimlet named the “All Nighter” for my nurse life and Ian’s was a twisted mermaid called the “Hawaii 5.0” for his love of Hawaii and being a police officer!

What advice would you tell other brides?

Don’t sweat the small stuff on your wedding, and try not to stress about your planning. There might be hiccups and mishaps but please remember what the day is about. Your love for one another and the love your family and friends have for you. Getting married is one exciting adventure of many, and just the beginning of a beautiful life ahead!
