Kate + Liam

How did you meet?

We met through the wonderful world of online dating –tinder. I remember Liam “super liked” me, which at that point he must have been a creep because the general super liking pool, well need I say more. Liam later tells me he “super liked” me because I was holding a surf board in one of my photos. I remember looking at Liam’s photos and thinking he was very attractive, but the thing that stood out to me the most was his warm smile and kind eyes….and his large number of tatts.

We began talking over a number of weeks and I remember feeling like I had known Liam forever. The conversation was easy and we discovered we had a lot in common (our love for the beach, surfing, animals, and family). We were excited to share our love for these things with one another, and before long we decided to meet up. Our first date was a magical day of surfing.

When did you know they were the one?

I honestly knew Liam was special from the moment I met him. I remember driving home from our first date in awe of the time I had and the way that Liam had made me felt and the person he was. I remember telling myself that even if I don’t have another date with this person (I really hoped I would), I feel truly blessed to have met such a beautiful guy that day. There was never an exact date or event that signified that Liam was the one. However there were times where I felt my love for him and who he was as a person really grew. Our first holiday to Port Douglas and meeting his family was a significant time for both of us (so significant this is where Liam proposed 2 years later). We really got to know each other on a deeper level and upon returning back to Torquay we were inseparable.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

I couldn’t sum it up in three….so here is a paragraph….

I love Liam’s caring, sensitive and soft side. He is so selfless and generous with those he holds close to him and those who he feels are in need. I love that he has a sponsor child who he has had since he was 16, who he still writes to and sends thing too. I love that he makes me feel like the most important and loved person in the world, he puts me on a pedestal every day. I love that he keeps a smile on my face from the moment I wake up – until I go to sleep. It really is the little things that he does that I don’t think he even realises he does that I love about him. These little things make me fall more in love with him every day.

Who proposed and how?

We were on holiday in Port Douglas for another wedding. Luckily Liam didn’t steal their thunder and proposed the day after the wedding. The wedding was a family friends, so all of Liams family were there and knew Liam was going to propose. The day after the wedding (quite hungover and in sweltering heat) Liam asked me to come on a walk to a lookout we had been to on our first holiday together. It was here Liam proposed, I don’t think I said yes, I just cried with happiness! It was everything I had hoped it would be like

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I fell in love with Lottie at the Melbourne store. I actually thought I found my dress the day before and was going to cancel my appointment. Im so glad I didn’t! I knew she was the one because as soon as I put her on and saw her in the mirror I knew my dad would cry seeing me in this dress. I felt so beautiful and elegant in her.

As our wedding was postponed she was kept in a box for a year. When I finally put her on a month out from our wedding date I fell in love with her all over again. My head never turned for any other dress in the time we waited for our wedding due to Covid – that is how I knew she was the one!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

I loved everything! A few standouts though were:
The ceremony – how intimate and filled with love (and a lot of tears) it was.
Sharing the day with our family, friends and out little boy Lenny who we had between postponing our wedding and our new wedding date.
The band! How fun they were.
The intimate time we spent at sunset with just Liam, myself and the photographer.
How fun our bridal party was.

What were your favourite details?

The venue – what an incredible backdrop.
The Scottish touched we included to pay homage to Liam’s Scottish heritage (the kilts, bag pipes and giant sword we cut the cake with).
My dress!!!
My sister’s speech or should I say rap.
The live band and dancing the night away with friends and family.
The sunset beach session of photos with just Liam and I – think Outlander vibes.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Try to take in all the little details of the day – for example how the tables have been styled etc
Pick a dress you feel beautiful in and comfortable in! My Lottie was so so comfy.
Destination weddings allow you to keep partying all weekend.
Take some time out for just you and your partner during the wedding to take everything in.
