Jenilee + Sean

How did you meet?

It was the 4th of July 2018 here in Maine. Sean was visiting from Tahoe, California to meet up with some college friends/roommates. A girlfriend at the time was dating one of them. I had been out on the lake all day with some of my friends and I had to work the next day so I was going to opt out of the lobster bake on Fort Gorges Island that evening with my friend and all of his friends. She pretty much dragged me out of the house and away we went to hop on a boat. As soon as we pulled into the marina I saw Sean and I specifically remember asking my friend, Carrie, who the hell is that 🙂 We struck up a conversation and spent the entire evening talking. We watched the fireworks under the stars on an island off the coast of Maine together. He was supposed to leave the next day but extended it so that he could take me on a date. We ended his time here knowing that we didn’t want to stop talking but we didn’t really know where it would lead!

When did you know they were the one?

I knew there was something very special about him the same night I met him but having him live so far away I really didn’t think anything would have come of it. Fast forward to a month later, we were flying to Denver to see each other again and see if this is what we both thought it was. That moment, that weekend in Denver I knew that I didn’t want to let him go! We did long distance for over a year, flying all around the world to see each other and exploring new places. It was at that point, we decided that a move needed to be made. He is originally from the East Coast and his family is here along with mine, so we packed him up and his dog Sig, and they moved to Maine!

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?-

I describe him as the salt of the earth, someone who grounds me, He is very passionate in everything that he does and has a fierce love for nature. He has these amazing green eyes which match his beautiful soul. He is reliable, not only to me, but everyone around him!

Who proposed and how?

He woke me up early on a Saturday morning in January. I remember it being freezing but he really was adamant about taking the dogs for a walk. There’s a little island not far from our house called Mackworth where we usually take the dogs. He wanted to walk the beach the whole way which hindsight I know why but I didn’t really think anything of it maybe it was the three martinis I had the night before! When we got to this little jetty he was like let’s go out here and take a picture, again not really thinking much of it. When we got to the end we took a photo and I was looking at the photo and he was on one knee and I still didn’t register what was happening! Fort Gorges was in the background, which is where we met. He took an ordinary moment and made it extraordinary. It was simple and perfect just like our love. It truly feels like a fairytale.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I had had my eye on Made with Love dresses from the start. Coming across an Instagram post I am mediately fell in love! I had tried on most of them but the two I loved the most were Archie and Louie. After trying both on I knew Louie was the one! The mix of sexy and romantic was just what I was looking for. The petals, the low back, the fit around all of my curves. I went with the Harlow veil to complete the look 🙂

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

The best moment for me was locking eyes with him as I walked down that aisle. We chose to not do a first look and I remember feeling so anxious and nervous. We have been getting ready all day and I kept wondering and wanted to check in on him so seeing him for that first time was the highlight of the day.

What were your favourite details?

All of them! Big to small! It started with the driftwood altar we created to give the most natural beach look, with matching neutral florals throughout. The cocktail hour incorporating our puppies who couldn’t be with us by having the “Goodest Boys” bar. Moving into the dinner portion and creating a moodier feel with the florals and lighting. A sweetheart table to die for and included all the places we traveled to see each other when we were dating long distance! My must have was in regards to the dancing! I wanted lots of disco balls and comfy seating for my guests to create a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Kristee from Fresa Weddings knocked it out of the park!

What advice would you tell other brides?

To let go and not sweat the small things. Hire a day of planner at the very least so that you can enjoy the most out of your special day! Never forget the true meaning of why you are planning this day and try to have some laughs together in the stressful moments 🙂
