Hayley + Rob

How did you meet?

We met through mutual friends at university in Scotland. We were friends first and started dating a couple of years after meeting.

When did you know they were the one?

Five years into our relationship we decided to uproot our lives in Scotland and move to Canada together in 2017. This was a huge adventure for us as we didn’t have a set plan and had no safety net of having friends/family or even a job in Canada before moving. I had actually never even been to Canada before! There is nobody else on the earth I would ever have considered moving across the world with and having that special connection cemented that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Rob. We have now lived in Canada for 5 years and been together for over 10 years.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Kindness
Sense of humour
Honesty

Who proposed and how?

8 months after we emigrated to Canada we booked a cabin on a lake in one of Ontario’s provincial parks, Algonquin Park. We set off on a hike which I had picked, none the wiser that Rob was away to propose. We got to the beautiful viewpoint and I sat down on the edge to take in the scenery and turned around to see Rob on one knee. It was so special and just the two of us, the way I had always dreamed it would be.

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

Due to the pandemic I had to go dress shopping alone in Toronto which was quite a daunting experience. I tried on dresses at a few stores but there was always just something missing. When I tried on the Carla by Made With Love I fell in love. It was me in a dress. I wanted something fitted with a little sparkle and the amazing embroidery was so unique. I had my bridesmaids and family members on zoom for my appointment and they all commented on how happy I was in the Carla dress. I ordered the dress a few days after trying it on in store.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

My favourite moment of our wedding was walking down the aisle and seeing all the people I love and care about sitting at our ceremony. As we live abroad in Canada and due to the pandemic it had been years since we had gotten to spend quality time with everybody so it was very special.

What were your favourite details?

I loved seeing the ceremony arch our florist had created, I sent her some photos on Pinterest and she brought my vision to life.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Try not to get caught up in having the perfect day, things may go wrong on the day, whether it be big or small but the most important thing is everybody is there to celebrate your love so don’t let little things stress you out.

Any standout vendors?

All of our vendors were amazing, special shout out to our amazing photographers Nicola Stewart Photography and Jade Esson Photography. Nicola and Jade had shot a few of our friends weddings in Scotland and we loved their work so much we flew them out for our destination wedding in Lake Como.
