Emily + Shivam

How did you meet?

We met at work! We ended up being part of the same friend group there before realising we liked each other.

When did you know they were the one?

The first time I met Shiv’s family, and he met mine. He was so kind and respectful which is so important to me! When he met my family, Shiv was insistent on wearing a suit of respect to my dad, even though I had tried to explain to Shiv that my family are super casual (we are from a small coastal town where shorts and thongs are standard dress). I remember Shiv spilled something on his shirt on the drive down and was freaking out. I couldn’t help but laugh because, sure enough, once we saw Dad, he was as casual as ever and didn’t even notice!

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

He is selfless, generous and kind.

Who proposed and how?

He did! It was right before the first Covid-19 lockdown and he had told me he wanted to go out for a picnic and take some photos together (I should have been suspicious because he doesn’t like photos). He arrived at my house dressed very nicely and he was trying to convince me to wear something nice – apparently a very difficult task as I just thought we were having a nice picnic and I was quite happy in my comfy clothes! He kept the destination a surprise and the whole drive he seemed so nervous and barely spoke to me. I got the surprise of my life when he took me to a beautiful headland over the ocean and got down on one knee!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I saw Louie Flowy on Instagram and immediately fell in love with it, although I tried not to get my hopes up in case it didn’t suit me! It was everything I had ever dreamed of in a dress – simple yet elegant, with the most stunning neckline, back and train, and such beautiful detail. As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one – and the option to add pockets was the icing on the cake!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

There were so many special moments, but walking down the aisle with my Mum & Dad and then seeing Shiv and all of our loved ones waiting to celebrate with us was definitely my favourite.

What were your favourite details?

We got ready in the home that belonged to my grandparents many years ago, the same house my Mum lived right before she got married. This was very special as my Granny passed away several years ago and was such a beautiful way to include her in the day. I was also absolutely blown away by our flowers. My florist knew what colours I loved and she just went above and beyond to create the most stunning arrangements.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Keep everything in perspective. It is easy to get caught up in all of the small details but, at the end of the day, the most important thing is getting to marry the love of your life and being able to share that day with your loved ones!
