How did you meet?

My husband and I met in college, after I spent several years crushing on him! I would walk past him on campus, just to get his attention. Of course he paid me no mind. My friend strategically introduced us at a party and the rest was history!

When did you know they were the one?

I knew he was the one when he was a great friend to me before he ever became my boyfriend. He turned out to be everything I expected, and more!

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

My favorite attributes of my husband are his creativity, his ability to overcome adversity, and his love for his family. Unlike me, my husband paints, creates apps, has written books, has created electronics, and so much more. As a minority in the engineering field, he has found his way into rooms that usually would not include people who look like him. Similar to me, he is extremely family-oriented, and is always giving advice to his younger brothers.

Who proposed and how?

My husband proposed to me after a movie date, shortly before Christmas. He tricked me by telling me that he had an early Christmas gift hidden in my closet. When I went to look for it, I turned around, and he was down on one knee!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I had always known I wanted the Ryder dress from the first time I saw it on Pinterest! When I went to try the Ryder dress on in person, I absolutely fell in love! It wasn’t until I started planning my wedding a little more that I realized that Ryder Crepe was the perfect match to the timeless, classic wedding look I wanted to accomplish. When I paired it with the Harlow veil, I knew it was a dynamic duo.

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

The best moment for me at the wedding was when I got off the elevator to the rooftop, to enter the reception and I saw all of my guests laughing, dancing, and having fun. It was a full circle moment because the month before my wedding was extremely stressful because I unexpectedly lost two of my uncles within a day of each other. I wanted them to be at my wedding so badly, and I was so upset when it wasn’t able to happen. When I stepped off the elevator and saw all those smiling faces, I felt like I had something to be proud of. I had my family and friends in one spot, at the same exact time. We were all happy and celebrating a special occasion, for the first time in a very long time. And I just wanted to cherish that moment.

What were your favourite details?

One of my favorite details was when my husband gifted me custom Vans that he designed himself the night before our wedding! I had told him months before that I would love for him to design a pair of Vans for me, and he did it! I also loved our “Fun Facts” napkins that we placed at each of the bars. With us being graduates of Mississippi State University, we gave out cowbells, which are a symbol of our alma mater. We changed our “send off” to a “ring off,” and asked our guests to ring us into a new chapter.

What advice would you tell other brides?

Delegate, delegate, delegate! Make a list of things that you can take handle, and then delegate tasks to other people to help you out. Each one of my bridesmaids was in charge of a different task. Based off their personalities, I knew who would be interested in what task. For example, I had one bridesmaid in charge of picking the hairstyle for the wedding, another in charge of picking outfits/pajamas for the Bachelorette trip, another in charge of picking out the style of the bridesmaid dress (they all decided on the same one), etc. This also helps so that the Maid of Honor isn’t loaded down with a lot of duties. It helped me to focus on the big things, and let them be in charge of things that really involved them.

Any standout vendors?

I loved every single vendor we chose! Our photographer, Coriss Watson, got the absolute best shots and made everybody feel comfortable with poses. DJ Kujho, kept the party going and kept our guests on their feet the entire night. Fresh Cut Florals brought the timeless look I wanted to life. Grace Garden Evens coordinated our wedding day, and made sure that everything flowed smoothly. Dixon’s Printing & Design provided our acrylic sign that was placed on the hedgewall, making the perfect photo op for our guests!
