Alana + Matt

How did you meet?

We met in high school – grade nine English class to be exact! We had been friends for a few years and it wasn’t until grade 12 that we started to show some interest and go on dates. We went to prom together and Matt asked me to be his girlfriend that night! We’ve been together over 10 years now!

When did you know they were the one?

We had already chosen our universities before we started dating so were going to be doing long distance. When we had to say goodbye to each other before we both left for school, I knew in that moment that this is someone that I didn’t want to live without and that we’d make the distance work.

What are your three favourite attributes of your partner?

Matt is extremely patient, understanding and thoughtful.

Who proposed and how?

Matt proposed to me while we were skiing in Whistler. Matt and I had moved to Whistler to work a ski season after we graduated from uni and it’s the first time we lived together. Whistler holds such a special place in our hearts and we went out for a short trip to visit his brother that was working a ski season and while we were out skiing one day (on his birthday!), we stopped at a lookout point and he got down on one knee in our favourite place!

Where did you fall in love with your dress and why?

I fell in love with my dress at Joy Bridal in Bowmanville, Ontario! I had my eye on Scottie before my appointment and once I tried it on, I knew it was the dress for me. I absolutely love the 3D lace and how it looks like beading but it so light and soft. I also love that you have the option of a higher neckline. The cut of the dress is beautiful and timeless – I loved my dress SO much!

What was the best moment for you at your wedding?

Right after our ceremony, Matt and I went to the bridal suite just the two of us and soaked up the moment. It was so nice to get a few minutes alone together and take in that we were finally married!

What were your favourite details?

I loved my Holly veil and how it is so simple and elegant but adds so much to the final look. I also loved mine and my bridesmaids bouquets!

What advice would you tell other brides?

Be fully present on your wedding day! Give your phone to someone to take photos and videos and don’t sweat the small stuff! The day goes by so quickly that you’ll want to just be present to soak it all in.

Any standout vendors?

Our venue was absolutely beautiful; we got married at Madison Greenhouse.

Our day of coordinator, Madison, was a dream to work with.

Rachel at Joy Bridal was an amazing bridal consultant and so much fun during my appointment!
